President Trump on Friday said the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is reviewing water efficiency standards, claiming that some people flush the toilet “10 times, 15 times” due to a lack of water pressure.
“We have a situation where we’re looking very strongly at sinks and showers, and other elements of bathrooms,” Trump said during a small business roundtable at the White House. “You turn the faucet on … and you don’t get any water. They take a shower and water comes dripping out.”
He added that “people are flushing toilets 10 times, 15 times, as opposed to once. They end up using more water. So EPA is looking at that.”

Get yourself a Bidet toilet lid save a ton of paper. Downside is most people don't have an electrical outlet near a stool.
Our en suite has one of the 25 year old 2.0 gallon toilets. It amazes that she can clog it up after what I suppose is a significant sit-down. Of course it may have something to do with her ability to completely use a mega-roll of two-ply paper every 2-3 days.
Conversly the new 1.0 gallon flush unit in the powder room has some sort of primary back-flush that seems to stir up the effluent and gets it moving. This means that less water is needed to swirl things down the drain.
Newer technology ain’t always bad.
I was leery of the new one I put in about 2 years ago. Never had a problem with it. It has two modes. (Hmm - com-mode?). Press the handle and it does a low flow - never had a problem. If you press the handle farther (done by accident a few times) it does a more impressive job.
While I guess it is supposed to use less water, the force of the water seems much more than my two older toilets.
I have some I can send you. Check the newer bulbs they now make them in a variety of colors and I doubt you can tell the difference other than being sable to see everything because you can get much more light at the same cost and if you are paying more than a buck a bulb you need to change where you shop. I had two 60 watt bulbs in my garage and decided to fix it so I could actually see when they were turned on. I bought a couple gadgets on Amazon that let me but 4 bulbs in one socket. Those four bulbs use 48 watts of power and produce 10 times the light.
I do not like the new toilets and washing machines. I miss toilet bowls that generally left no evidence of anything, only needing a quick brush down once a week. I miss washers that actually got clothes clean, and not leave pet fur and lint on them when you pull them out. Also miss white undershirts staying white for awhile (though that could be the fabric quality as everything is made overseas these days.)
I like it. MAGA is not just about the big things but also the little details that make an impact on our day to day.
Most of the time the bathroom would be the only place not noisy at work where I could make a quick private phone call. Now even that has been inadvertently taken away via the spaz auto flush toilets that can’t sense whether you’ve gotten off the pot. It merrily flushes away repeatedly as you sit. Needless to say not conducive to any sort of dignified conversation.

I had to replace the “suds sensor” on my front loader. I was putting in the recommended full scoop that the detergent people say to use. Was making it too sudsy.
Went online (applianceguru.com) for the repair. He explained how the front end loaders need WAY less detergent. I use 1/3 of a scoop now. No sensor problems, no rinse problems, clothing is clean.
Sometimes I’ll run extra dirty clothes and I put a half-gallon of water into the machine. This not only adds water, but also weight - so the machine thinks there is more clothing and will also had more water.
I’m more disappointed with all of the electronics and crap that the new machines have and makes it more difficult for a do-it-yourselfer to repair.
My “bleach setting” is supposed to do a longer rinse. But that broke for some reason. Instead of fixing it, I just set it to rinse/spin that runs for another 10 minutes.
Oh - and how they meet the “energy guidelines”. Remember the days when you could do a load of laundry in 15 minutes? Well, that might have used energy at a rate of 1500 kwh or whatever. But the new rules say you can’t exceed 750 kwh. So - the new machines take twice as long.
Still the same total amount of energy though! (But at least they meet the government rules!)
That assist won’t help clear the sewer lines, though.
Cheap Chinese crap is all some people can afford I’m sure.
I hadn't thought of the green aspect of crapping in the street. Maybe someone could make a parody tune titled "Crapping in the Street" based on "Dancing in the Street" by Martha and the Vandellas.
Excellent! The “water saver” toilets save nothing.
Our solution is poop first, flush by holding the handle down until the tank was empty. All 1.5 gallons, compared to the old 5-gallon toilets. When the tank is full, repeat the first step. NO PAPER in the first two flushes. Then put paper in. Follow by three full flushes. Total of 7.5 gallons, where one big slug of 5 gallons would have done the job.
When we have company, we go into the bathroom after they use it and do multiple flushes, hoping all will be well.
Why not get it fixed? The line runs under a masonry porch. We would have to remove half of it. Then when the plumbers open the ground, the city would require them to replace 80 feet of deteriorated clay pipe about 8 to 10 feet underground. Then we would need to build a new porch. I could get a really nice car and a new furnace for the cost of the new pipe.

Does anyone here know why some commercial grade toilets flush like a jet engine (to use George Castanza’s wording) and if its possible to buy them for the home?

Saying you have to flush 10 times to get rid of a turd is pure hyperbole. 3 flushes will get rid of it, the other 7 flushes are just frustration.

We have an old low flow toilet in one of our bathrooms. Many times you have to flush it twice.
Old house had the old style toilets, 1 flush was all you needed. The toilets in this 15 yr old Starter home are the water saver’s and it takes at least 2 flushes, and they do NOT clean as well, they scratch easy too.
understood. many of the new toilets are really bad...
