Elizabeth Warren said she wants to be the last president elected by the electoral college and the first elected by the popular vote.
The Democratic presidential candidate wants the electoral college abolished after the 2020 election, saying she would get elected next year under its rules and then by the popular vote when she ran for re-election in 2024.
Democrats were outraged in 2016 when Hillary Clinton won the popular vote but Donald Trump won the electoral college and the presidency.
Only five times in American history has a candidate won the popular vote but lost the presidency, including the 2000 election where Al Gore won the popular vote but George W. Bush took the electoral college.
'I want to get rid of it,' Warren said of the electoral college in a video posted on her Twitter feed.
'So heres my goal. My goal is to get elected and then be the last American president elected by the electoral college. I want the second term to be that I got elected by direct vote,' she said. 'Call me old fashioned but I think the person who gets the most votes should win.'

And I want fake indian to give back ALL the money she received using false pretenses..we all know that is never gonna happen
Not on that one.
Politicians are loathe to give up power, and that would be the ultimate ceding of power. State legislators who say that they support amendments abolishing the electoral college are cut from the same cloth as Federal House of Representatives members who claim they would support an amendment enacting strict term limits.
The last star in the universe will twinkle out before Warren’s second term.
No, being old-fashioned means having the states elect the president according to the Constitution.
As pessimistic as I am about the GOP, I can't. There are at least 17 state legislatures that would vote this down.
Well she is a Senator, presently, so she should go ahead and introduce a Constitutional Ammendment, as that is what it would take.
I do hope she holds her breath until 3/4’s of the States ratify it.
The election for president is 50 separate elections on the same day. Each state's people get to vote. You have to win the most states collective electors, based on population, assigned per state.
Yup.
The electoral college was a BRILLIANT decision by the founding fathers which guarantees ALL Americans a voice in elections and prevents New York, Illinois, and southern California from being able, on their own, to elect our government... ..THANK YOU!!!!
We only believe in democracy and a representative democracy only when people vote the way we want... Unless they did vote how we told them to, then of course it is the freest country in the world.
It really disturbs me how many people each day would read such statements from liberals and not breakout the pitchforks, tar and feathers.
Sorry...I didn't realize that my post required a sarcasm tag. :-)
You won’t get a first term, Gray Beaver.
“Elizabeth Warren said she wants to be the last president elected by the electoral college and the first elected by the popular vote.”
Purge all voter rolls and start from scratch. Warren’s reaction to that will tell us everything we need to know.
What is she smoking in her peace pipe? A veto-proof majority in both houses of Congress couldn’t agree on lunch let alone something this big.
In a so called democracy they do, we, however are a representative republic and Montana has as many senators as California.....works great......worked for Abraham Lincoln for example!!
Before her second Jail Term make more sense than her Second Presidential term.
That’ll be never, Elizabeth.
When Warren said she would ban fracking and close pipelines on Day 1 of her administration, I thought she had snapped. They she outdid that by saying she will tear down existing border walls. No surprise she is fading.
She wants a pony and a unicorn, too.
