Welcome to the Bicycle Thread. A monthly PING List for bicycle enthusiasts to share experiences, information and ideas.
Another vote for Zwift.
I put together a “budget” Zwift set up for just over $200.00
You will need a trainer and some kind of sensors to record the data. Mine is a used Kinetic Road machine I got off craigs list for $50, plus an In-Ride 3 sensor $50, a Wahoo heart rate monitor $50ish, and a dedicated trainer tire $30 and finally a ANT+ Dongel and 6’ USB cord $20. Something like this will get you started. You will need either a smart phone or computer or tablet to run Zwift. I use an Apple i6 and a PC laptop and connect to my large screen TV. The i6 runs the Zwift companion app while the laptop runs Zwift. If you use a PC laptop it needs to run a 64 bit operating system.
I have been doing Zwift for 3 weeks now and just shy of level 8 which i think is fairly good for an old guy. Last night I did a metric century. My plan is to make it to level 12 by the end of December and climb the Alpe on New Years Day. This is in my opinion an aggressive goal.
3 weeks into Zwift I still don’t have it fully under control, its a complicated thing. But it does what it’s intended to do that is offer an indoor training opportunity that is way less boring than watching the TV while peddling. There are many group rides and races in addition to free rides on Zwift.

Thanks for sharing the info fatboy.
There are tons of youtubes on Zwift.
I currently have 4 bikes in my stable, none of them have disk brakes. At this point I’m riding 60-80 miles per week most of it on roads but I live near and use the D&L Trail in NE PA. This is about 140 miles of rail trail and canal towpath. I made a “gravel Bike” from a mid 80s steel frame road bike. I also have a 15 year old Trek 4500, this is actually a “hybred” bike not a mountain bike as it is marketed as. The only negative on the rail trails is the stock tires are not good, too knoby for that kind of riding but easy to fix with something a little less aggressive tread.
Get a good “how to” repair book like “Zinn and the art of Mountain Bike Maintence” or tons of you tubes I really like “RJ the Bike Guy” on you tube to get your brakes working perfect.
Personally I would rather have a quality saddle that fits me and good bicycle riding shorts to wear than disk brakes or shock absorbers.
The fairies riding those things on roads are a disaster. They belong on a high school track where they wont cause automobile accidents.

Is it permissible to say that I have 3 bikes excess to my needs that I need to sell? I had a hard encounter with an auto earlier this year that gave me a broken right collarbone AND nerve damage to that shoulder & arm. I am now using a wonderful Catrike recumbent but I have a Brompton, a Bike Friday NWT and a Trek 520 just sitting. If this is non-permitted use of FR, please delete.

My stupid weather app said cloudy with chance of rain in the afternoon (actually sun-showers). But when I got out of the front door there was light drizzle and hail. So I only rode to the graffiti wall and back. Glad I did because my favorite street artist put up two new pieces:
