I went out to breakfast with my family on Black Friday. Then I hid under the covers the rest of the day.

The surprise would have been if it had not broken records.

I am not shocked. The nation has had time to get used to the Trump economy and forget about the negative thinking of Obama. Even if folks don't realize it, reports of good news, even from a media that hates Trump, sink in after a while. Sink in right down to the molecular level of most bodies.

When people feel strong and optimistic, they spend freely.

Just wait until the Christmas season really gets underway.

Nonetheless, look for retailers to start whining soon about a weak, losing season. Then, in early January, they’ll announce record sales and profits for the season. I get so tired of that game.

I’d like to say I completely ignored Black Friday, but that would be wrong.

I bought a pair of Columbia trail runner shoes for less than half price thru Amazon (free delivery). Just too good a price to pass up. The rest of the day I spent raking leaves (AGAIN) and getting a bedroom ready to paint.

I hope others got the deals they wanted...and returned home safe.

Yet Drudge acts as if the world is ending because (paraphrasing) hardly anyone at all went shopping.

Drudge? Yeah, I know.

But I wanted to see if they had the usual “Seasons Beatings” headline.

Nope.

Ok it’s good for the economy but it’s not smart for those shoppers who choose to go into deep debt over Christmas shopping. Rushing to a store with hordes of people pushing and shoving for items to buy is a flavor of stupidity I choose to avoid.

Gotta laugh at the Drudge headline about “thinning shoppers” at Macy’s- i was at Macy’s in NYC yesterday with my daughter and her friends- they couldn’t fit anymore people in the store if they tried..

No amount of Free Shipping and Handling can replace the wonder and joy of the Water and Music Show for a six year old. John Wanamaker’s in Philadelphia will forever live in the minds of the children, now seniors, in that land long ago.

Went early to Petsmart for their Black Friday specials - traffic getting into the shopping center was backed up for blocks - the Home Depot in the same center was packed.

Places were jammed yesterday. Microcenter, a computer and parts store, probably had 200 people in line by noon. It wrapped around the inside of the store. Credit to Microcenter in that they had a dozen registers opened.

As bad as the days after Christmas when you fight to get in line to return things you fought to get in line to buy before Christmas.
