Ole Miss loses to Mississippi State after urinating dog celebration

STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Luke Logan missed a 35-yard extra point after Mississippi receiver Elijah Moore was penalized for celebrating a touchdown by crawling and pretending to urinate like a dog, and Mississippi State ended up with a 21-20 victory Thursday night in the 116th Egg Bowl.

Ole Miss (4-8, 2-6 Southeastern Conference) pulled within a point with 4 seconds remaining on Matt Corral's 2-yard pass to Moore, but Logan hooked the extra point after Moore cost the Rebels 15 yards.

"That's not who we are. We've been a disciplined team all year, and so just disappointed that happened," coach Matt Luke said. "That's not who he is. Elijah is a good kid, and he just got caught up in the moment."

Mississippi State (6-6, 3-5 Southeastern Conference) beat Ole Miss at home for the first since 2013.

some of them do not understand when enough is enough

Instead of suppressing it, develop it. Make it a part of the game and show. Why not?

Sure. Let’s interrupt the football game for a half-hour of twerking with the cheerleaders after every touchdown. Fans already complain the game is too long.

Were it not for the unsavory image, this guy actually did it the right way. He made his statement, hugged a few teammates and returned to the sideline. I have no problem with a spike (unless it’s a taunt in the defender’s face) or a “tebow” or genuflect. Even tossing the ball in the stands is okay with me.

What I don’t like is long drawn-out celebrations, particularly those meant to rub it into the defenders. If I ran football, I’d pass a rule where celebrations could not exceed 15 seconds or be of a demeaning or taunting nature against the other team. Anything you want to do from the time you get on your feet to the end of your “performance” is fine but if it goes past 15 seconds, there’s an unsportsmanlike penalty. And the penalty is reviewable.

A great game ruined by a single stupid act!

I suppose some would say that there was no guarantee the kicker would have made the PAT even from a normal distance, or Ole Miss would have won the game in OT. So it’s not 100% accurate to say that the stunt cost Ole Miss the game.

Fans already complain the game is too long.

So cut it down to 2 quarters, let the minstrel shows take the place of a halftime show and call it a day.

Yes I lived in Miami then and had season tickets at the old orange bowl

And you are correct

Dennis Erickson didn’t reel it in any either

From my recollection, this behavior appeared to become popular with the University of Miami, especially under Jimmy Johnson.

It's still popular there, even when their butts were getting kicked by FIU (The new Kings of the 305!!!!)

No, it wasn’t a great game. It was a messy game by below average teams. Not only did s*** for brains play peeing dog, but earlier, a Mississippi State player flopped (faked an injury). Both coaches, coaching staffs and admins should be held accountable. If it were up to me, I would have swiftly cancelled dude’s free ticket, fired the Ole’Miss head coach, and fined the Mississippi State coach for allowing a flop.

It wasn’t a great game by pure football standards, but it was an exciting game despite the many errors on both sides.

I didn’t say that Old Miss would have won the game, I said the game was ruined by a single stupid act. I didn’t care who won. But the entire discussion was about the act and it got the Old Miss. coach fired.

As opposed to the Alabama game where there were many errors on one side.
