The writer’s very first sentence is hilarious, with each adjective worthy of deep analysis.
This is the time for stars.
I enjoy a well written rant.
I’m confused. Wasn’t there another movie about Fred Rogers that came out earlier this year?
I remember reading that Trump Attorney Pam Bondi was harassed when she went to see this movie. This was in April or May.
If there are indeed TWO such movies about Mr. Rogers in the same year, that’s poor planning. Not that I would be seeing it anyway.
It was kind of stupid but kids loved it, and probably it didnt hurt them at all.,
I was working in a group home for what we used to call retarded adults, and we watched it every evening because it really calmed them down. My kids, too (we were resident managers) would all sit out there and just kind of forget about everything except this fantasy nice world, So I don;t see that it was harmful at all.
I seethed and boiled with disbelief at this narcoleptically inane puppeteer and his just-regaining-consciousness-post-coma manner of speaking. I did not yet know the word condescending,
But you knew the word Emetic....
This is quality writing. “Punatively earnest” is a phrase for the ages.
I was a wee lad in the 70’s, and my impression was that Mr. Rogers was a very nice, very boring fellow. I’d watch a little from time to time, but inevitably the knob would get turned to some Looney Tunes or Three Stooges.
Or, as the other poster mentioned, good ol’ Captain Kangaroo. I’ve always had a thing for ping-pong balls since then.
:P
Well, it’s a fun read across the board, but my favorite lines come near the end: “There are a few dozen scenes, all of which reiterate the same point, in which Fred Rogers gently counsels Lloyd Vogel to not be such a nimrod, jerkwad, and dillweed. (Come to think of it, I think Id be better at this game than Fred Rogers, though my therapeutic technique would borrow heavily from Sam Kinison.)”
