Christine Rollins, 59, was attacked in Anahuac, east of Houston, outside a home where she worked as a caregiver to an elderly woman.
Chambers County Sheriff Brian Hawthorne told reporters on Monday: "In my 35 years I will tell you it's one of the worst things I've ever seen."
"No doubt in my mind that it was multiple animals and we can tell that from the different sizes of the bites," said Sheriff Hawthorne, adding that the homeowner's dogs appear to have chased away the hogs before Rollins' body was discovered.
The sheriff said neighbours had recently complained about rampant feral hogs, and officials have since laid traps for them.

Hogs will attack one another when competing for the food, and if one gets hurt, and bleeds and the others get a taste, then hes food too.
Brandy the Pit Bull wins award for her performance in “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood.” Well, she did kill someone but only on command in the film.
I saw it and loved it, want to see it again. Yeah, I know the stars are leftwing nutcases, but a good movie is hard to find.
Feral pigs litter size averages 6 to 7, but can be as large as 12. A female feral pig averages 3 litters per year.
An adult boar averages 180 to 220 pounds, a sow averages 130 to 180 pounds.
Mehhhh.....
Who wants an AR now?
lol... also, I think hogs are tastier.
They are really good if pitted (cooked in a pit)... then loaded with BBQ sauce
Missouri’s Department of Conservation has made it illegal to shoot wild hogs.
They insist it would be preferable to set large traps to collect three or four animals. Shooting one just spreads the tribe, they say.
The hogs exist in south Missouri and SE Missouri.
None hereabouts, thankfully.
Frankly, knowing how I feel about bacon and pork ribs, your post made me salivate.
However, I understand it IS critical that you cook those things thoroughly. No wild boar tartare for me. :D
Well, you have Sheila Jackson Lee, so you do have a lot of ferals around, of all species...
We have a wild hog problem in parts of Oklahoma. Here...it is open season on wild hogs...24/7/365...no hunting license necessary.
Me too. :)
[Texas has a thriving feral pig processing industry.]
“Missouris Department of Conservation has made it illegal to shoot wild hogs”
That’s insane.
They insist it would be preferable to set large traps to collect three or four animals. Shooting one just spreads the tribe, they say.
There are these two older fellows on YouTube that only hunt at night and they have top-of-the-line night-vision gear and they’re probably using Ruger 10/22’s with noise suppression and they brain these Hogs with temple shots which immediately drops them and the rest of the hogs just keep on feeding... they don’t even notice.
give it time. They’re screwing around with DNA right now in an attempt to bring back the Wooly Mammoth.
All of that means they could reduce me to a mere memory in about 10 minutes, flat.
SO long people will restrict their hunting stupidly for zoning reasons or farmers charge $500 per head to hunt them...
THis is ridiculous.
“Collect” them?
Is there a bonus if they get the whole set?
In another report I saw the attacking pigs called feral hogs. A wild Boar would be a male, correct? So who checked their gender(s)?
We have those on our ranch. We kill some now and then when we see them... but they run in packs... and they run fast.
:D
I can’t be the only one who thinks it bizarre that they use the term “tribe”.
