Lowndes County Sheriff John Williams was fatally shot when he approached a truck because the music was loud, and he was asking an occupant of the pickup to turn it down, according to law enforcement and an eyewitness.
About 8:15 p.m. Saturday, Williams was shot at the QV convenience store near the Lowndes County Courthouse on the downtown square in Hayneville. Law enforcement apprehended the suspect William Chase Johnson, 18, after a nearly four-hour search when he walked up to the shooting scene about 12:05 a.m. Sunday with a firearm in his hand and was taken into custody after the manhunt.
Johnson has been charged with murder, according to Elmore jail records. No bond has been set.

He shot the sheriff ...
I’m stunned the ACLU is not yet trying to outlaw the term ‘Parishes’ for something more secular, like Counties.
Let them keep on overlooking it.
It always seems most of Louisiana is still recovering from a flood. So they have more important issues to think about besides the term “Parish”.
It is what it is.
Gee, what do you think the coverage would be if a white cop was approaching people to lower music?
Im sorry, Im conditioned to believe thats racist harassment of innocent and cherished members of society.
Are we going to have it both ways now?
Cops approaching people to direct them to comb their hair?
Have the rules changed?
Lowndes County Georgia has got a lot of high school football players who go on to play at the college level. The local town Valdosta is nationally famous for its past gridiron glories.
John Williams, loud music. I love it.
I have a friend who is nearly 80years old. A few years back he fell asleep in his truck, parked in his garage, listening to music louder than his neighbor liked. She called the police. They entered his garage, shook his shoulder while he was sleeping in his truck. When he awoke his natural instinct was to start swinging. He punched a policeman in the face without actually realizing what was transpiring. Of course he was arrested, which charges resulted in him potentially facing ten years in prison. Since he was a veteran and a respectable member of society he was able to petition the court and only sentenced to three years probation. Being on probation doesnt set well with him.
I suspect he was drunk. He has a previous charge for underage drinking. Could be drugs included as well but I'd bet there was alcohol involved.
What a dumbass. Eighteen years old and he'll never walk out of prison.
You think??...lol..
Try posting “Fry the little BLACK Boy” on any story on here and see how it goes over....
I rest my case Your Honor!!
He is a scrawny little 18 year old white punk with a prior record, and shot a black sheriff who was a USMC vet and by all accounts, an all-around good guy in the county. Skin color doesn’t matter. Let the little SOB ride the lightning. I live in Alabama, and we have a surplus of these grubby, unkempt, uneducated little shits running the back roads.
If your case is that only morons focus on skin color then we are in agreement.
“Louisiana does not have counties. It has parishes.”
Great job, you two! You passed the test I slipped in! Well done.
Reading around and sure looks like the people of Alabama lost one of their best men.
Men’s lives are short .
The hard man and his cruelties will be
Cursed behind his back and mocked in death.
But one whose heart and ways are kind - of him
strangers will bear report to the whole wide world,
and distant men will praise him.
THE ODYSSEY
Bingo!
Thanks for playing!
he’s white, looks like Peter Brady.
William Chase Johnson is 59, 137 lbs
At 137 pounds, Chase may want to lift some weights and bulk-up before they place him in the general population at the state pen.
only “WHITE” unkempt uneducated little shits running the back roads?
I didn't realize that....
