The End of Babies
NY Times ^ | Nov 16, 2019 | Anna Louie Sussman

In the fall of 2015, a rash of posters appeared around Copenhagen. One, in pink letters laid over an image of chicken eggs, asked, “Have you counted your eggs today?” A second — a blue-tinted close-up of human sperm — inquired, “Do they swim too slow?”

The posters, part of a campaign funded by the city to remind young Danes of the quiet ticking of their biological clocks, were not universally appreciated. They drew criticism for equating women with breeding farm animals. The timing, too, was clumsy: For some, encouraging Danes to make more babies while television news programs showed Syrian refugees trudging through Europe carried an inadvertent whiff of ugly nativism.

Dr. Soren Ziebe, former chairman of the Danish Fertility Society and one of the brains behind the campaign, believes the criticism was worth weathering. As the head of Denmark’s largest public fertility clinic, Dr. Ziebe thinks these kinds of messages, fraught as they are, are sorely needed. Denmark’s fertility rate has been below replacement level — that is, the level needed to maintain a stable population — for decades. And as Dr. Ziebe points out, the decline is not solely the result of more people deliberately choosing childlessness: Many of his patients are older couples and single women who want a family, but may have waited until too late.

But the campaign also notably failed to land with some of its prime targets, including Dr. Ziebe’s own college-age daughter. After she and several classmates at Copenhagen University interviewed him for a project on the campaign, Dr. Ziebe sought answers of his own.

You may blame abortion and contraception for declining fertility.

It is contraception. Yes. It leads to people thinking they have domain. It they don’t. Fertility drops with age. 35 is considered elderly primapara. Old. Like in MLB pitching or so.

Fertility declines with age in both men and women. This is a fact which may he an inconvenient truth. But it is true.

“Be fruitful and multiply.”

Media: “Don’t have babies. Spend your money on our advertisers instead!”

“It is contraception.”

It’s the Pill. That was the first nearly 100% contraceptive, legalized abortion would never have come about except as a back-up to the 95% (off the top of my head) effective birth control pill.

I don’t say this as proof, but let me add that I once said this to an adamantly pro-choice friend, truly a woman of the Left, and she agreed with me straight away.

Because of health issues I experienced when I was very young, and other exigencies, I never had children.

I probably would have been a lousy, overly protective mother; so it’s all good.

But I would never have objected to being a ‘breeder’, or to having the opportunity to love and raise up a very good child and citizen. A lot of women who wait too long are going to have serious regrets.

It touches on other life issues as well.

There is a hedonistic mindset among big numbers of young people. There is a mindset which does not consider marriage and family as major life goals, or believes marriage and family decisions can just be put off indefinitely.

There is a mindset, even among some who do value marriage and family, that the couple should remain childless for a number of years as the woman gets established in a professional career.

There is a mindset among some, that children impinge upon adult freedoms and pleasures, and that children should be avoided.

The new “in” thing (pushed by the Media) is to have pets instead of babies. Especially if you are White.

Get with nativism or get used to conquest and/or dhimmitude.

(pssst: not just advice for Denmark)

Ah, but don’t worry, Danish Fertility Society. Your socialist pols will import PLENTY of young, virile mohamedan males, who are more than happy to impregnate your young women. Look how well it is working in Sweden! Don’t worry, just remember which way is east and repeat after me, ‘Aloha Snackbar!’ Don’t worry, the spawn of these invaders WILL be a little darker (and more bloodthirsty) than your average Dane but allah will protect after the conquest.

Many women would be far better suited to various professions, if they waited until after their young child-bearing years.

We just don’t have a system that can recognize and support that.

Women CAN ‘have it all’. They just can’t have it all-at-once.

Anything but babes...
The media can’t sell high-vaiue ads to parents.

But they can to the lonely single people.

You may blame abortion and contraception for declining fertility.

Those aren't the reasons why. Abortion rates have been falling for years. The fastest growing method of contraception is people having less sex. People don't have babies because people don't want babies. The real question to ask is why don't they want kids.

In a way, this makes no economic sense. Parents need things for their children. Babies ==> Children ==> Teens ==> Young Adults drive demands. It’s Marketing 101. Always has been.

Except now the solution is to import people from the Third World who need stuff.

The lack of fertility among native born is a reflection of the desuetude of a dying culture.

People whose lives are devoid of meaning and have no stake in the future have no reason to sacrifice a hedonic lifestyle for the sake of mere children.

But the items sold to singles are more high-profit.
Items with more profit- itens that pay more to the media.

Items for childten are commodities throughout the world. Not so profitable.
