ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) -- A $75 Costco “Anniversary” coupon advertised Tuesday on Facebook is a scam, according to the company.

The scam asks users to share a Facebook post, which falsely promises the user a $75 coupon if the user completed several surveys, Snopes.com reports.

It provided links which led to web pages that were not operated or sponsored by Costco. Users were asked to provide personal details, such as their name, address and phone number, and complete a lengthy series of surveys.

After completing these steps, people were told to sign up for a number of “Reward Offers” which usually involve applying for a credit card or a paid subscription service.

I wonder if Facebook will suspend the people sharing this scam as fast as they did people who named the scam "whistleblower"?

They are offering free stuff (falsely doing so) if you complete a survey. That’s essentially information mining, likely some of it identity related.

I never, with one exception being never, go for the free $hit. I also never do surveys of any kind for anyone unless compelled to do so.

I never sign up for drawings of any sort where there is a chance to win something.

Most people just can’t resist doing surveys or signing up for stuff.

If the net result is getting more mail, email or phone calls than you want, well you asked for it.

If you get scammed or ID stolen, well you asked for it.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

I have zero sympathy, especially for the Farcebook crowd, that might get screwed as a result of this.

I have stupid relatives. Mostly cousins. Every stupid fake scam on FB, which most are, they share or comment on to ‘get entered’. Win a new Jeep! If you look the page was just created. Win a tiny home or an RV! Same thing. Then there are all the close celebrity names, fake Ellens, etc., that are giving away millions of dollars! Yeah, right. I see every scam there is because my stupid cousins go for every single one of them.

Really? You mean that I’m not getting $75 for sharing a post? Next you’ll tell me that I’m not getting that case of beer for sharing a different post and that Zuckerberg isn’t giving $2 for every share about some sob story.

It’s a scam? Ah, hell. I was going to put my $75 Costco coupon to good use. I was going to use it to help pay the $200 transfer fee needed to get my gold bullion out of Nigeria.

There are a number of scams going on on Facebook and the ones I have seen have the same method.

You post publicly something heartwarming, and since its a public post it can be seen by anyone on Facebook. Then suddenly after your post somone leaves a comment on your post, declaring themselves to be some celebrity and saying you have one their “prize”, and their comment inlcudes a link to their FB page. They are not the celebrity they claim to be and the “prize” is some kind of scam in which they will try to extract more personal information from you in some way, as part of entering their “prize” scam. I have reported these to FB but new ones pop up again - in the same manner - all the time.

You know not everything is about politics.
And you’d loose that bet. They’re all huge Trump supporters. How are you gonna reconcile that?
