Sharks Still Spotted Off Cape Cod Into November, After Record Tagging Season
CBSN Boston ^ | November 8, 2019 | Sarah Wroblewski

CHATHAM (CBS) — After a summer full of shark sightings and beach closures, the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy is close to wrapping up shark tagging season. A record 46 sharks have been tagged so far, the most ever in one season. snip

Scientists follow a specific process before tagging a shark. First, they make sure it’s not one they have tagged before. They use a omni-directional hydrophone that allows them to listen for the presence of a tag on an animal. The team also takes video of the shark to catalog and compare after. If the shark has no tag, it’s a quick trade from a camera to a tagging spear, and it’s game on. “The tags that we are putting on these sharks are acoustic transmitters. They will ping for up to 10 years. We have an array of receivers all over Massachusetts,” Skomal said. snip

Skomal and his team tagged the biggest shark of the season – a 15-foot great white shark. It was not far from shore, where its afternoon snack, a seal, was laying on the beach.

On this trip, with the help of a spotter plane, the team saw over a dozen sharks.....

I just figured it was all of those African slaves that Republicans are still tossing overboard on their way here to work in the plantations

Time for a seal kill.
Man as a natural predator is gone and the numbers are growing.

The unsolvable problem remains, because both the seals and the white sharks are Federally Protected, and that is not likely to change. - Tom

IF I had been born as a shark, I would NOT want a LIB for any purpose, much less as food. = LIBs are 100% POISONOUS.

We are expecting to get some snow in the Boston area tomorrow afternoon.

Our weather seems to frustrate Global warming advocates -Tom.

Don’t you know that the Climate Change KOOKS claim that “Global Warming” CAUSES cold weather, bad storms & even HEAVY SNOW??

Clueless IDIOTS are 100% of the Global Warming KOOKS.

A Cape Codder sounds the alarm for a possible future problem:

"Another gap in our knowledge is what impact global climate disruption may have. Bull and tiger Sharks are currently found in the coastal area of South Carolina, among other reasons because the water is warmer than here.

But as climate disruption warms the seas, will these species move north? Currently, the Tropic of Cancer and The Tropic of Capricorn are expanding toward their respective poles at a rate of about 30 miles per decade.

If the tiger and bull sharks move north, will great whites leave the Cape for Maine and Canada? What will our waters look like as the ecosystem of the Carolinas moves toward New England"?

Don't even fool around like that. The corrupt democrats will try to impeach the president for that invisible crime. If they can come up with a crime from the Ukraine phone call they can come up with a crime anywhere. They seem to be able to pull fake crimes right out from Adam Schitt’s filthy rotten ass. It looks like the go to spot for lowlifes, leakers and maybe a few dead tweakers.

Update, November 13, 2019 CapeCod.com

BARNSTABLE, Mass. (AP) — Researchers have fitted 50 great white sharks found in Cape Cod waters this season with tracking and data-logging devices to study how the species kills seals to benefit public safety.
The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy uses two tags to study behavior — a standard acoustic tag to identify the shark and an accelerometer that records body position, speed and acceleration.
Researchers say the data is used to determine when the animal is resting, chasing prey, feeding and how much energy it is using.
State shark researcher Gregory Skomal said that the primary focus is where and how white sharks kill seals,” which will be used to determine when and where sharks are more likely to be present.

That was a good sized shark, too...10-15 feet maybe?

I admire them, but...I don’t want to be around them in the water.

Awe inspiring creatures.

I was staying overnight down in Point Judith, RI down near the water back in the eighties, and we were having a party and someone came in and said someone had caught a huge White Shark, so we all jumped up and walked over.

By the time we got there the crowd was dispersing, the shark was nowhere to be seen, but there were two remnants:

One were the jaws that had been cut out with all the teeth still attached. The teeth were bone white, brilliant white, and the contrast with the bloody jaw was striking. And the teeth were huge and very sharp. I ran my thumb along the edge, and it was clear that if I hadn’t been careful, I could have cut my thumb. The jaws were big enough that I was able to stand freely inside that huge toothed opening, over my knees! Sadly, this was before the days of ubiquitous digital cameras and cell phones, otherwise I would have had a great picture!

The other remnant was a huge pectoral fin, longer than my outstretched arm, being sawed at by a wiry Asian fellow who had taken it and was sitting on the curb with a cigarette poking out the side of his mouth, ineffectually sawing away at the thing with some long knife with a rounded end, and he would occasionally pause to use the concrete curb like a whet stone, but...I didn’t believe he was going be successful.

That must have been one huge shark, I wish I had seen it before they did whatever they did with it.

Time for a seal kill. Man as a natural predator is gone and the numbers are growing.

The Federal Govt. has protected the seals and white sharks and culling them is illegal.
That is what makes it an unsolvable problem.-Tom
