Lake Superior, in my limited experience of paddling around in a canoe, is very clear and has a sandy bottom.

In good weather so is the Atlantic Ocean when your topside in the sail of a US submarine on a moonlight night. You can’t say the same for the North Atlantic in winter.

This sinking is probably the most legendary after the Titanic itself. I’m surprised a motion picture wasn’t made of it yet.

Gitchee Gumee was feared long before any European laid eyes on it. The last of the Great Lakes to be formed as the glaciers retreated, it still feeds the aquifers that form the Mississippi River.
