Porsche launches into New Jersey building’s second floor leaving 2 dead, police say

Two people were killed in New Jersey early Sunday when a Porsche launched into the air and smashed into the second story of a commercial building, authorities said.

The sports car was traveling at “a high rate of speed” on Hooper Avenue when the driver lost control, hit the center median and smashed through a window on the building’s second floor, Toms River Police spokeswoman Jillian Messina told Fox News via email.

The crash happened around 6:30 a.m., Sgt. Vincent Pedalino told NJ.com. He said the building, which houses a real estate office and several other businesses, was unoccupied at the time.

I should have read the story at the link first (the pics wouldn’t load though; i’m in a bad cell reception area). Due to the reporter’s words of skid marks across all 4 lanes, I will agree with your description. Yep. Hit the curb tailend first, launched into the air, upside down at impact.

The original story at NJ.com, and every other internet source (likely all derived from it), suspiciously repeats the word “driver” but never “owner”.

Probably daddy paid for it and on his insurance.

Still not as good as the story about poor "porsche girl" whose brains were splattered all over a toll booth she tried to go through at 90 MPH, but NOTHING matches the boys that stole their dad's BMW M5 and LAUNCHED it off a private airway (same one Travolta is on) and into a huge oak tree. The car and darwin award winners were scattered over an acre. The Porsche Boxster has a engine positioned in the middle of the car, and is about 15-feet long, so it could have easily cartwheeled into the 2nd floor.

Why do they say “a high rate of speed”? The correct wording is "a high speed." It seems to be a police term to make it sound more impressive. Fake physics.

The term "rate of speed" means acceleration. There is no easy way to know how much he was accelerating just before the liftoff, but moving at a high speed is pretty obvious.

I should have said that the term "change of speed in a time" is acceleration. "Rate of speed" has no real physics meaning.

I don’t try to assert that anyone is in heaven or hell. That is obviously for God to decide. At both of my parents funerals I delivered the eulogy (with the approval of my three siblings). After speaking of their lives I simply said that heaven is a hope, and we hope to go there, and hope to see family and friends again. We hope for that. We walk with God for that result.

Totally agree with you. This seems to be a dumb American Police-ism. They should simply say high speed, like you point out. Instead, their shaky grasp of physics leads them to spout nonsense.
