Imagine, you know someone who doesnt know anything about WW2, and you had to explain how the US was attacked at Pearl Harbor, the significance of Doolittles raid, the odds the US was up against the Japanese, how Intel helped us win the battle of Midway, and just how crazy, non-politically correct, and determined the Greatest Generation was - all in 2 hours.
Thats the movie Midway in a nutshell.
Finally, something worth seeing ;)
Cant wait to see it again - its a story the young folks today need to hear
Just found out that the Chinese funded slot of that picture. Trying to figure out if see it at theater or wait and watch it at home on big screen.
I was hoping to hear this. However, my Hope’s were not too high.
How was Woody Harrelson?
The only character that even acted a slight bit gay, was a Japanese Sailor
Not a Disney nor Universal... it’s basically a German production. LOL.
I seldom go to movies, so I dont even know who he is, but the actors the portrayed Halsey, Nimitz, and all the other pilots, and crew men were totally believable for the period - no PC crap at all.
Great! I have already bought tickets for tomorrow and was hoping it wouldn’t be too bad. My 12 year old is a big history buff and really wanted to see this movie. We are also looking forward to seeing ‘1917’ in December.
Woody Harrelson was in the hit TV show “Cheers,” (1982-1993) as Woody Boyd, the replacement for Coach. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheers#Subsequent_main_characters
I think youll enjoy it - but if smoking offends you dont go; its kinda funny, but the characters must have smoked 100 packs of cigarettes while making that movie - lol !!!
Sorry - we were raising kids during those years and basically didnt even have a TV in the house. Im still catching up on episodes of Sienfield - and the kids? They all went to college and turned out great.
I’ve seen the one made in the 70s countless times. I will probably go see this one.
He's the one who won the Battle of Midway. WTAF.
I'm sure it's a good viewing experience, but let's give credit where credit is due.
Waldron for the win - pulling the Japanese CAP down to the deck, so they couldn't interfere with the Dauntless divebombers who showed up at altitude just after the slaughter of the American torpedo bombers.
LTC Waldron: "If we run out of gas, we'll piss in the tanks."
I’ve known just a FEW people who raised kids and ACTUALLY watched tv. :)
But you’re SUPER PARENT! :
And the kids turned out PERFECT so I’m glad :)
Haven’t seen Midway myself. But, just heard on the radio a devastating one-star review by a professional film critic. Won’t repeat the specifics because it’s now obvious to me why the critic bashed the film. He must be a Blame-America-First zealot determined to limit the number of people who see this film during its theatrical run so as to limit, in turn, the number of red-blooded Americans who end up being positively affected by its patriotic message.
Can’t believe I almost fell for this ploy. Penance...Penance...Penance... :-)
I could definitely see how the hate America first crowd would not like this movie. The characters talked about stopping the Japanese - theres a few graphic scenes of violence perpetrated by the Japs, and the characters know, if they dont stop Japan in the Pacific, theyll be bombing coastal cities in the US. The movie is about saving America, when we were once a united country.
Taking my husband for Veterans Day.
