For over 10 years, the United States has wanted to honor Reagan with a statue in Berlin. However, the administration of the capital had till now rejected numerous applications from US officials and dignitaries.
Berliners had mixed reactions to the new statue. One older woman told DW that she was not opposed to a statue of Reagan as the US had been a “protecting power” over West Germany.
But a man in his 30s told DW he was opposed to the statue. “I wouldn’t be too happy to connect the fall of the Berlin Wall to Ronald Reagan because he was quite a conservative president,” he said. “He made the Cold War much more intense than it was before.” …

I was stationed in Frankfurt from 1986 to 1991. I made it over to East Berlin about a month before the Wall came down. In the East, we had to go in uniform (patches and insignia removed) and we went into shops where they wouldn’t wait on us, and I got bitched out by a middle-aged guy on the street, just because of who I represented. East Germans were not friendly at all.
In the West, the Germans that lived around where the Kassernes were, especially in the larger cities, were pretty mixed on how they viewed/treated us. As soon as we got into the smaller hamlets and countryside, though, they were a lot more friendly.
Just like here, I don’t pay much attention to the opinions of people that live in the larger towns and cities. As a general rule, there’s a reason they live there.

I was in Germany from 79-82. Stationed in Kirch-Goens. never got to Berlin, but had a helluva great time in Berhchesgarden. (sp). I do remember the 600 DM bar tab for a bunch of us celebrating my birthday. Ah...those lovely alcoholic days...Great time had by all. Now its Chocolate and coffee. eh?!

I visited Berlin a few months before the wall came down. In West Berlin, Reagan was a hero. Then I took a tour of East Berlin. OMG, what a wreck it was. No stores, nothing to buy as a souvenir. HORRIBLE “housing” in the Communist tradition of charm-free slum “housing.”
People have asked me how I got into East Berlin. Easy, I said. Just go to Checkpoint Charlie and get on a tour bus.
A few months later, the Wall came down. I still have a piece of it.
Dear Germany, if you want to put a statue of Hitler on the German embassy in DC, we wouldn’t care since it is your land, so please STFU...

On the brighter side, the enormous casualties the U.S. suffered in Europe and north Africa would have been avoided...
Without having to fight two wars (Europe & Pacific), additional attention and resources (ships & airplanes) could have been brought to bear on the japs...
Finally, the loss of the Soviet Union as the key mentor to the implementation of communism worldwide would have crippled the large contingent of communists in the U.S. both as citizens and government officials... It may be likely that the successful foothold they have now gained in controlling large parts of the U.S. federal & state & municipal governments under the guise of the democrat party would not have been possible...
When the japs attacked the U.S. we had just one (1) foreign enemy... Then, for his own reasons, FDR and the communist-controlled state department made the Germans into an additional enemy...
Today, after expending untold trillions of dollars and unimaginable lives in a two (2) front WWII, we now have two (2) foreign enemies (China & Islam) and one (1) domestic enemy (communists) within the gates and having significant control throughout the U.S... All three (3) enemies with a huge presence in the U.S and seem to be itching to start a conflagration......
