OK ... I am cheap .... REALLY cheap, and my sound card went out ...
Stay on topic, please ;)
I have noticed that Walmart occasionally clears out their computers.
Almost exactly a year ago, the local one had a new one marked down from $459 to $199. It had everything but a monitor and they seem to last for ever. I actually have a couple of spare ones in storage which are perfectly good.
Yeah, I was just looking at Costco. AIOs then they had a pretty nice gaming desktop with an i7, 16G RAM, SSD and magnetic drive, good Radon card, etc. But it was a little pricey, $1300 or $1500, I cant remember which.
Does $119 or $139 for an HP sound acceptable?
Really cheap? Get a current Raspberry Pi with Linux on it.
Plugging in a mouse makes sense. I do that with my laptops and never use the touch pads. Plugging in a keyboard many times seems like a waste. So I only do that when I set up to work remotely. Otherwise, I just use the keypad.
Plugging in a second monitor can be a big plus. It allows you to have more screen space and more windows open. At work, I use two extra screens and my laptop screen. I could still use some more screen space.
At home, I usually set up my laptops with an extra monitor. It is convenient. And when I am producing documents, it is almost mandatory. Cutting and pasting with two screens allows both applications to be open and visible at the same time.
Go to your yellow pages
Search for computer repairs.
We’ve found two used and rebuilt/reconditioned computers when our two originals crashed and burned. Used them both for four plus years and have yet to experience any problems.
Each computer purchased was $100. He also had reconditioned/repaired monitors and keyboards for minimal funds.
PS This particular entrepreneur was a “Gem”, Jimmy Dean. Seriously, he was found as his business was advertised on local tv. He was able to transfer our old ‘puter’ information into the newer one purchased.
Search the ads on the upcoming sales the Friday after Thanksgiving.
Good luck in your quest.
Those are gaming computers, it won’t let you build anything before you tell them what games you play.
Yeah gaming desktops need to be pretty powerful from what I understand.
I really just use the home laptop for the web and excel and video streaming so a 3 or 400 dollar laptop is good for me.
i7 16g is nice though.
I know laptops can go VERY high too, like up to 4,000 dollars!
And people that actually use a computer to, you know, compute!
Autocad, PCB design, EZNEC, etc.
Many it seens, like my wife, think only of email and social media.
Although I have a couple of laptops (with keyboard & mouse), me and the wife use HP 22 inch All-In-Ones. They have gigantic screens for these old eyes and can be upgraded easily (added memory and replaced hard drives with SSD drives). Has many USB ports for as many add-ons as you need.
I’ve bought a few Dell Refurbished PCs and would highly recommend them. A quality product.
Yeah, you want to spend some serious money on a laptop, look at the Alienware gaming laptops on Dells site.

Expensive as h3!!. But then, in the 80s the machine you wanted cost $3000, and that was in 80s dollars!
Beat ya by 3 minutes.
