We went as a family of four -- all of us voted straight R ticket. No competitive races for us -- Republican should win easily for State Senate and Delegate. Turnout -- poll worker said about 12% already voted (11:20am). He thought it was pretty good for a small election without competitive races.
Everyone here at FR seems to be so pessimistic about Virginia. I know it's a tough situation, but I still have some hope that we'll retain control.
Addendum — there were no lines, but there were a steady trickle of voters. To me everyone looked like a Republican voter (more elderly, etc.).
SW Virginia with its high “Deplorable” population base, is unrepresentative of most of the remaining population of Virginia
Unfortunately, southern VA is not what matters, What matters is Northern VA, Norfolk, & Newport News.
We dutifully cast our wasted votes here in Richmond. A Republican will never win in Richmond. The good news for us is that we are moving to western VA where our vote will count.
Maybe in Richmond it won’t count but here in Short Pump we’re feeling good about it!
what VA seats could flip to blue?

Sadly, northern Virginia will have a large number of federal employees go vote straight DemocRAT during their standard 3-hour lunch breaks.
Ben Tribbett @notlarrysabato · 1h Centre Ridge turnout- strongly blue density precinct in Tim Hugo's district. 2015: 593 in person all day 2019: 520 at 10 am.
Some of the districts were redrawn by courts to group parts of Richmond and suburbs. In the VA Senate district I live it was drawn to include parts of Chesterfield county heading northeast to include Manchester and Forest Hill.
I would start a movement for SW VA to succeed and join TN.
good info on turnout here

@fairfaxvotes
reports 8.4% at 10 a.m. Way down from 15.9% turnout at same point in 2017 (gubernatorial year)
It was light here in Blacksburg
My state (Washington) went all mail vote several years ago. I hate it. The only things I cared about on my ballot was a city council position (friend of mine running) and a school funding measure (voted against).
Oh, and the perennial $30 vehicle license tabs referendum (the public keeps voting it in and the state legislature keeps cutting it out) ;’}
Good luck!
“SW Virginia with its high Deplorable population base, is unrepresentative of most of the remaining population of Virginia”
After the 2016 election I checked the voting map and in Virginia the blue areas were basically the metropolitan areas and large college towns.
Northern Virginia is heavily populated and on the national elections they seem to carry the state because that population is blue.
The rural areas are for the most part red and that helps to stave off the state going totally Democrat at the state legislator level.
You all seem to not get that there are NO statewide races here in VA. Everyone knows that northern VA is blue. But we’re all voting by region in this election. Doesn’t matter if a million northern VA libs are voting 90% D in Arlington. There are no statewide races for this election.
SE VA report. My family’s 3 voters went to our precinct and voted R. Conservative area with good turnout. Won’t overcome the liberal areas in VA but we did our part.
. . . we did our part.
Much gratitude extended from this Maryland deplorable.
Praying that the liberal areas in VA might be a little complacent today and take things for granted.
FYI. We only have local/regional races and no statewide races this time. They can have all of northern VA -- that doesn't affect the other races. So they can win the "popular vote" for the whole of VA, but the election today we still have a chance to hold our state legislative majorities (sort of like what President Trump did in 2016 on a national scale). What you're saying is equivalent to saying California and NY leaning so far left, etc. Yes, but we still have a chance with the legislature as we have no statewide races today.
Off year (non- federal) elections generally have lower turnout but the libs have spent heavily in VA this year. Every vote counts.
Yes, but the Democrats with their federal judge have made sure that the voting districts are gerrymandered to dilute the Deplorable vote
