The revelation that the Missouri state health department had a spreadsheet that tracked the menstrual cycles of Planned Parenthood patients has set off a firestorm in the medical and political arenas Wednesday and led to a call for the dismissal of the departments director.
Dr. Randall Williams said in sworn testimony Tuesday that the spreadsheet was used to find so-called failed abortions, in which Planned Parenthood patients had to return to the St. Louis clinic to complete the procedure.
But on Wednesday medical professionals expressed puzzlement and outrage about the practice, asserting that it served no legitimate purpose.
OBGYN Jennifer Villavicencio, a fellow with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, said what the state did defies both logic and ethics and called it skin-crawling
I spent some time thinking about how this director would be using this information in any form that would be meaningful medically and I really cant think of any, said Villavicencio, a clinical lecturer with the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Michigan.
I think without the patients knowledge that their information was being collected, the fact that it was being collected through an inspector and there was no form the patients signed for release of their information truly defies every practice that I have ever been taught about privacy for patients.
From an ethical standpoint, its frankly bonkers.
This whole thing is just a perfect example of how terrible it is when politicians try to practice medicine. And thats what theyre trying to do, said Mark Finkelston, an OBGYN for nearly 40 years in Johnson County and at several metro hospitals, now retired.

I don't see how it could be used against them either. Seems like a big nothing.
Anyone else got an idea?
In 1983, the Washington Post published a series bassed on Stephen Mosher’s research in China, exposing the fallout from the One-Child policy. I remember one page one story (below the fold) where the cycles of Chinese women in the factories was displayed one the wall! That is the next step.
More history of botched abortions.
Oh c'mon, we all know that would NEVER happen here! (do I really need the /sarc tag?)
Wait wait wait...
The state didnt collect this information - planned parenthood did and then turned it over as part of their medical records.
Of course these are the same people that want federal gun registration
AI could use the information as a predictor to send a warning to the significant other when she is entering the period before the period.
Is there a black market for blood from a period?
If PP is doing this, there is some type of financial reward for them to do this.
I just know all the OBGYN expressing outrage are strongly pro-abortion. Date of last menstrual period would be in the pregnant patient medical records. I am not sure how much information was sent to the state health department by Planned Parenthood or why. But I have a feeling PP may have initiated it to show why it is necessary to keep the clinic open.
Now you are not being politically correct because you know Men have periods too don’t ya know. Smirk.
You are right. It is hard to keep up with this stuff.
Could be they were using this information to track when they could deliver murdered baby parts to their clients from their presumed mothers who were willing to murder their babies! These people are sick and should be dealt with!
