Rep. Walden of Oregon announces retirement (nuther 1 bites the dust)
Washington Times ^ | 10/28/19

Rep. Greg Walden of Oregon, the top Republican on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, announced his plans to retire Monday. In a statement, Mr. Walden explained his retirement wasn’t for fear of losing a reelection bid in 2020. “Based on recent polling, strong fundraising, and the backing of my wife and family, I am confident I could earn the support of 2nd District voters for another term,” he said. “I’m also optimistic that a path exists for Republicans to recapture a majority in the House, and that I could return for two more years as chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. But I also know that for me, the time has come to pursue new challenges and opportunities.”

Please send young, Pro-Trump #MAGA people to run in these slots. With a massive DJT victory, his coattails will sweep a lot of decent, non-Swampers into office.

“Walden is the 22nd House Republican to retire, resign or seek another office since the 116th Congress convened in January. Seven Democrats have retired or resigned in that time.” (Wash. Post)

It’s not that fun to be in the minority party in the House. Low status, no power, but held responsible for every negative thing that happens nationally. Not hard to understand why minority party reps retire at greater rates than majority party ones.

That’s also what we have to do in the primary against the Bush League Republicans.

If we keep electing Amnesty Senators, they’ll think we want amnesty.

Walden, 62 years old, is the top Republican on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and former chief of the House GOP campaign arm, has broken ranks with Trump on a number of high-profile votes this year — rebuking the president on his signature border wall, backing Russia sanctions and voting with Democrats to end the historic 35-day government shutdown.

If the Repukes think that there's a Party after Trump, they've got another think coming.

I disagree.

They KNOW we don't want amnesty - and don't give a damn. We are "The Great Unwashed" after all.

They [correctly] bank on the premise that the Dems are so bad we will have to vote for them. Most GOP Senators are "Lesser of Two Evils" choices.
They know that the national party will use its resources to squash any genuine conservative challengers in the primaries.

Hell of a choice, ain't it? Evil or evil's smarmy little sidekick.

First elected in 1998 — 21 freakin’ years ago...

And he announces his “retirement”.

Think for a moment how screwed up that whole premise is...

We have to break the cycle while President Trump is in office or they will give the country away after he is gone.

Those backing amnesty have shown they do not care about the Republican party, they are working to make a permanent Democrat majority.

So this is a fairly left leaning Republican in a left leaning state. Who do you think will win this seat next year? A conservative Republican, a moderate/liberal Republican, or a Democrat?

Something is going on behind the scenes.

Some Soros-funded group is blackmailing them behind the scenes, I'd guess.

I couldn’t agree more. DJT has broken the political order and with it he’s in the process of permanently changing the Rs and Ds. The Free Traitors of the Republican party are as passé as the corporate thieves and pretend “defenders of the middle class” frauds of the Democrat party. A pox on both of their houses. Let them all retire, no globalism! vote Trump!

Rino Season has opened.

Anti Trump Republicans see Trump Republicans well financed for the next 20 years. The Hate Trump Rinos bet on the wrong horse.

The Trump Thoroughbred is winning all the races,
while the Bucking Rino still plays defense.

I understand the fashion among Republicans is that you’re supposed to “serve” for a short period and then leave. In reality, that means only wealthy people get to “serve”. And when I say wealthy, I mean tens of millions of dollars in accumulated wealth.

I think politics is a perfectly honorable career choice. Because elected pols with deep experience are the only antidote to the unelected bureaucracy* aka Deep State.

New York City implemented term limits. The result? An actual communist, Bill DeBlasio, is currently running it.

Make no mistake. The Deep State would like nothing more than to institute single-term limits for all elected politicians. Paul Ryan instituted 6-year term limits in the House for GOP committee chairmanships. Does he seem like a reformer to you?

* I favor at-will employment for the entire Civil Service. But we know that’s not going to happen. I’ll like to see government employee and teachers’ unions abolished. But that’s not happening either. Bottom line is that unless the civil service is turned into a clone of the private sector work force in terms of job protections (i.e. none except for egregious employer abuse), long-serving politicians are the only people who can balance out their entrenched power.

62 is the age of retirement. I’m sick of these idiots thinking their last day is leaving by casket.
