I have seen Amish people many times in Tijuana of all places. They travel by train to San Diego and take the trolley to the border. They go their for medical care. They bring their families with them. I heard them speaking some type of German.
Berlin, Ohio
My brother lives in the Finger Lakes region of NY and I know they are in that area. They built an addition to his house. You’ll see their buggies on the road.
Based on all the things posted on FR, the Amish or concentrated DC, South Chicago, and Baltimore...
Some great places to stay, as well...
No, I dont. Do you know what goes clickity-clack, clicking-clack boom? An Amish drive-by shooting.
Well I have a coffee mug that says “Amish Country” I could send ya.
Got it from a yard sale— nowhere near PA— when I first joined FR.
There’s a FReeper joke in there somewhere.
If you travel west to east through new York state just on the north side of I90 you can travel through some of the quaint towns. The Amish up there tend to live on the feeder roads to these towns. The road less traveled, so to say.
As far as having their own town, I can’t say they do. They rely heavily on a good population that buy their goods.
Be careful though because you may go around a corner and find a horse drawn carrage going very slow.
Happy trails to you.
If you can time your trip to coincide with the Kutztown Folk Festival, it would be quite a treat IMO. We love going there each year for the artists who sell their work.

It’s been decades, but I visited a little artsy-fartsy town called New Hope, PA once. My girlfriend and I shopped in the little stores then hit the bars. Neat/quaint town. Not Amish, but from what I remember, it was worth the visit. Located in Bucks county roughly in the lower right corner of the state.
There are Amish communities in Chautauqua County in Western New York State. Cherry Creek and Conewango on the eastern side of the county. Clymer and Sherman on the western part of the county.

Also take in the place where Gable & Lombard were married-an early example of environmental care. Still running.
Check out Smicksburg, PA.
I always liked Charm, Ohio but I haven’t been there in over 20 years. We would always stop at Alpine Alpa with all the cuckoo clocks on US 62 for lunch but it’s out of business now.

Holmes county Ohio is the largest Amish center in the country and some of those towns listed above are in Holmes county.
Yes, Im certain of it.
Smicksburg, Pennsylvania, (northern Indiana County) which is in southwestern Pennsylvania. Also the area around Grove City and New Wilmington, Pennsylvania which is in northwestern Pennsylvania. Much less commercialization than around Lancaster and beautiful countryside with little traffic.
