I need to replace my Win 7 Pro PC with something else for Internet and financial accounts access. Software like TurboTax for 2020 will not be authorized for Win 7 (and without any security patching after 1/14/20, wisely so). Still not convinced I want to go the Linux route.
Get a Mac and never look back.
I've been using TurboTax on a Mac for years.
I got a Win10 PC on the cheap from EBay, as I noted above. Linux really isn’t difficult, if the learning curve is of concern. Security is good with Linux, but I’m more used to Windows on that account.
If you’re not familiar with using Linux you can test out the different offerings by running them from a USB (or from a disk) live to get a feel for it.
I have a separate external 500gb hard drive that I have Linux - the Xubuntu distro (version) - on. I just plug in the USB and then turn on my PC, if I’m not booting into the Windows already installed on the PC. Works great.
You could go to Apple or some other UNIX.
Turbotax has an online version which is what you should use. It does not matter what version of windows you have. It only matters that you have a modern browser.
But if you use Windows, I suggest you use Windows 10. Its far better than 7. It does have some issues. But you need to change your search to DUCKDUCKGO. And you need to use Foxpro as a browser. There are other products out there. But stay away from Microsoft and Google products.
I went Linux Mint with an old computer with a bad hard drive. The only problem I have with it is it won’t print from pdf.

P.S. It runs 5-10 times as fast as Windows 10.
FYI, I called H&R Block about this and was told they will be supporting their software under Win 7 for the foreseeable future.
H&R software will take your TurboTax returns and convert to their format.
Mac? A little pricey but it runs Unix which is a very good OS.
