Video shows officer shoot an unarmed 16-year-old as he runs away. Police say it was justified

The surveillance camera footage, provided by attorney Stuart Chandler, shows 16-year-old Isiah Murrietta Golding climb a fence and enter a small yard as he is being chased by two officers.

Murrietta Golding, wearing a gray sweater, lands on his feet and starts to run. One officer climbs the fence while the other gets into a crouching stance and fires through the fence, the video shows. Murrietta Golding then stumbles and falls to the ground.

In the police body camera footage, also provided by the attorney, someone off camera can be heard saying "good shot."

The bullet went through the back of the teen's head, according to the father's lawsuit, and he died three days later. The lawsuit claims the officer who fired had no "objective facts" to believe that Murrietta Golding was armed or reaching for a weapon. The teen was unarmed, the lawsuit states.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this particular cop, if you had bothered to read the entire story. The victim was a suspect in a murder! The victim had shot at police the day before. In other words, the victim was known to have a handgun on his person, something that is unusual for a 16-year-old in California. The victim climbed the fence into a daycare center yard. The victim appeared to be carrying an object in his right hand, which the police probably assumed was the gun he had shot at them with the day before. Of course, had the victim taken kids hostage at the daycare center, you would have been the first one on this board complaining as to why the cops didn’t shoot him. Here is the bottom line: if you don’t wanna get shot by the cops, obey their orders, don’t run, and especially don’t run when you’re wanted for murder.

“Freepers like killing

Few have done much of it”

What the hell is that supposed to mean? and who on here is going to post that they have killed as if they are proud of it?

I’m jovial about a sweater-wearing teen that won’t be able to kill again. I’m celebrating with his potential future victims. Perhaps you’re lamenting that lost cure for cancer?

"Second, he jumped the fence into a compound of a daycare center"

If that is correct, the cop may have saved many innocent lives.

Perhaps he is commenting on the casual way some refer to the shooting. Right or wrong, all life is precious and ought to be preserved if possible, mourned at it’s loss.
. Yet some folks just need killing, still, it is a horrible thing. Some of us know up close and personal about it. Willing and able but nothing to gloat about.

With what the offices knew about this guy, and given the Dynamics of the situation, I agree they were justified. Choices/actions have consequences, often more and greater than can be overcome.

I have 800 hours experience litigating excessive use of force cases, and about another hundred evaluating those for a trial court as a staff attorney.

The two videos show no reason for the officers to have their guns out at all. There might be some reason not in the videos for it. If so, this would most likely be in the radio records.

Sorry, but it appears that the whole department knew and was actively seeking this guy. Facts matter.

The dead man was known to be armed, investigation for murder the day previously, shot at cops, killed already, fleeing from arrest on felony murder. Not sure where the disconnect is for you.

Tragic but just per CA law. And MO etc.

Was he a suspect in the murder, or just wanted for questioning? Had the dispatcher said the boy was armed? Absent the latter, there was no reason for the officers to draw their weapons.

Thanks.
his left hand was reaching for something. After watching it a few times it was his pants. The cop wouldn't know that.
This is questionable.

I was a long term career warrior but to this day I never tell war stories or even how the scars ended up on my body.

These are just not things one brags about or even talks about.

I give the police a lot of leeway, but the kid was unarmed as it turned out, had his ballcap in his right hand (it fell off when he hopped the fence). He was wanted for questioning not fleeing arrest for murder or escaping a crime scene, he had not shot at cops. His brother apparently shot the car the previous day that led to a fatal wreck. Many people who have had run ins with law panic and run. I’m sure he knew what they wanted with him.

Maybe he was a bad kid. Maybe the shot was legal by law. I just feel the shooting was an overreach. I admit I don’t know all the facts. I’m not gonna call it murder or anything but I’d like to see a bit more restraint absent an obvious direct threat.

Yes they did. He committed a murder the day before (drive-by shooting which his brother admitted to) and they were trying to arrest him for that when he fled.

No, they intentionally opened fire on a vehicle and someone died as a result. That is first-degree murder. It doesn’t matter that his brother was the one who actually fired the gun. Under the felony murder rule he is just as guilty. They would both get the death penalty.

I figured it was something like that. Like any good Freeper I read the comments without first reading the article.

Freepers often like two things

Cops killing perps

Handing out loads of time and bitching nobody gets enough time anymore even though we have the highest incarceration rates of any country not in a civil war

I’m sorry you can’t figure that out

Most here so free with violence haven’t likely had much taste of it

Receiving or giving

Do I need to keep clarifying or you need more Geritol.

I need to do a list of freeper personality traits

Like cop kills

Like long prison sentences and live under this illusion over a generation out of date that nobody gets prison time which is bullshit....average prison sentence in the feds is 8.7 years no parole

Another is Freepers comment without reading the article....that’s one we all do including me at times

Used to be Freepers virtue signaled over race like GOPe does....but that fortunately has waned a bit

A chubby sixteen year old arrested for gang murder makes a run for it and chubby jacked up cop shoots him in the head from ten yards without trial or evidence presented and posters here applaud

Sick pups who don’t get out much

I don’t believe in shooting unarmed fleeing felons baring some exceptions terrorism perps

That’s simply an opinion not a view of the law

And i unlike many here think sixteen is a kid

Funny though here discuss a 19 year old boy with a sixteen year old girl and freeper puritans claim the girl is a mere child ..almost like a second grader and the boy should be racked

Btw cop could have shot him at that range him unarmed without lethal takedown or tried to

I know Freepers have their canards and they stick with them

Here’s a personal fav I see here often:

“Why wardaddy you never pull your weapon unless you are following through using it”

Hogwash

Brandishing my weapon saved my bacon a number of times in my life without having to kill the threat

That cop did not have to head shoot the kid especially if his aim was. Actually that good.

"The 16-year-old was also known to carry firearms and had jumped a fence into a child daycare center.”

So a known juvenile thug, possibly armed, was shot after entering the grounds of a day care where he could have killed/taken hostage a child. Good shoot in my book.
