I thought you disappeared after the embarrassment of being 100% wrong about the majority of Syrian Kurds being Maoists.

The old saying about the best laid plans never survives the start of an operation seems to have been forgotten by the Turks.

(pssst.... the ruskies have a super secret no fly zone over the battle area. They chased off some Turkish planes yesterday. The Turks have militia not regulars out front. Not going to work out well for them.)

I’ve neither disappeared nor been disappeared... I simply have no desire to deal with your strange ignorance. You’re not worth it.

The Russians certainly learned from it. Are you familiar with the conditions regarding the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan? There was a book published fairly recently by someone who was in the Reagan admin at the time (I’d have to do some searching to remember by who). In the book it was detailed that the US government very specifically engineered the situation to make the Soviets feel like they had no choice but to invade. In other words, we specifically wanted them to do it because we knew it would be a disaster. It was all part of Reagan’s strategy to weaken the USSR.

So you being wrong is my ignorance? K, got it Felicia.

Some people don’t take being shown to be wrong gracefully.

Will add you to the list.

Oops my mistake, I mixed my dates. It was Brzezinski under Carter that engineered the invasion.

Dude, you’re certainly free to post to me. And I’m equally free to ignore said posts which I will now do. Your willful ignorance is tiresome to deal with so I’ll leave it to others to engage you.

” ... we specifically wanted them to do it because we knew it would be a disaster. It was all part of Reagan’s strategy to weaken the USSR.”

One problem with this theory is that the Soviets invaded Afghanistan in December 1979, more than a year before Reagan’s inauguration. So, maybe it was all part of Carter’s strategy./s

Sorry; I didn’t see your correction in post #28. In any case, was this the book’s theory or yours?

Let Syria and Assad protect the Kurds and fight Turkey for their own land. I said to my Generals, why should we be fighting for Syria and Assad to protect the land of our enemy? Anyone who wants to assist Syria in protecting the Kurds is good with me, whether it is Russia, China, or Napoleon Bonaparte. - President Donald Trump

Didn’t stop 70,000 displaced children, 174 dead Kurds or ISIS prisoners escaping.

"Let Russia deal with the headache."

Just asking.

Who are the FReepers who may have the most informed point of view on this Turkey/Syria/kurds/etc. problem?

I am pretty ignorant about the ME, and I need to read some wise perspectives.

Thank you in advance.

Plant story. Let both sides wipe out the Russians.

Erdogan is not going to piss off Putin. Putin has too many ways to take Erdogan out. Likewise, Assad depends on Putin for survival.

They are both going to do some typical Muslim face-saving rhetoric, then they are going to do what Putin says. What Putin wants is a stable Syria to serve as host to Russia's naval base, and he will do whatever needs to be done to settle things down, including getting ISIS out of there.
