Who are the FReepers who may have the most informed point of view on this Turkey/Syria/kurds/etc. problem?
I am pretty ignorant about the ME, and I need to read some wise perspectives.

I am not insensitive to the USA putting the screw to allies in the past, the handing over of Eastern Europe to the Soviets at Yalta, the stabbing in the back of Draza Mihailovic who opposed Tito, the abandonment and open hostility towards Chinese Nationalists and Chiang Kai Shek who were opposing the bloodthirsty Mao, the betrayal of South Vietnam and the Montagnards, we could go on and on.
Black marks on our national conscience, to be sure.
But I don’t know what to think about these Kurds. I have been sympathetic to them overall, but...these specific Kurds are PKK Kurds who are communists, and antithetical to most things we believe in. I am inclined not to want to ally with them, and even more so, since the Left REALLY appears to want us to.
If they are friends of the Left, they aren’t friends of mine.
