Jeannie Rice is faster at 71 than she was at 70.
In October 2018, she stunned the running community when she broke 3:30 for a marathon, running 3:27:50 in Chicago.
On September 29, almost one year later, she broke her own 7074 world record in Berlin, running 3:24:48. She averaged 7:49 per mile.
Rice, who splits her time between Mentor, Ohio, and Naples, Florida, ran even splits most of the race. All her 5Ks were in the 23-minute range, until the 35-kilometer mark (about 21.7 miles). Then she slowed to a 26:34. I faded the last 5K, but I knew I had it by then, she told Runners World.
Plus, she knows she has room for improvement in her next marathon, which will be Tokyo in March 2020. Im kind of glad I didnt break 3:20, she said. It gives me something to try for.

I am a 69-year old runner and cyclist. Numerous marathons and triathlons. I have been active continually since high school. I ran a 10K today at a 10:50 per mile pace! She is beating me by 3 minutes each and every mile. (Plus, I couldn’t run 26.2 at a 10:50 pace if I tried, now!)
Rice’s record is a truly remarkable feat.

Not worth saying twice. Sorry, guys!
Jeez, I would have to say that running a 10K at all at your age is pretty remarkable, let alone your fantastic numbers.
Im
Sorry but running is STUPID
BIKING HIKING WALKING SWIMMING ROWING anything else is good
Ask any runner who is 50 plus how their knees and shins and ankles are
WOW that is pretty amazing!
My Grand daughter is almost 11 and has been running cross country for the past couple years now... She just ran her best mile at 7:41 this past weekend. Pretty cool that this lady who is almost as old as her great grandma ran that same pace for 25.2 more miles! I will have to show her this to maybe give her a little motivation, Thanks for posting it!
Guess it depends on your body. I wake up at 5 am every day and run 2 miles. My legs and feet are fine.
Hi Oldplayer -
Fantastic job of keeping your health. I’m a 64 year old that started running for my health 8 years ago. For a couple of years I plateaued at 12:00 minute miles (in the halves and fulls) until I began to mentor a 42 year old whippersnapper in 2016. Being the model for him (he was at 300 pounds and asked me to “teach” him about running) made me more diligent about my own efforts. I had no weight loss, but my times dropped 2:45/mile (to 9:15). I’ve ran my fastest half last year, one week after running my slowest. There is something about staying hydrated that I would have never thought affected times. Oh, my friend is now at 180 pounds, and “toured” the Chicago full marathon yesterday in 3:15:22. I am proud for him. Last April I entered a one mile run just for grins, and clocked 7:49. It was good enough to win my age group, and place third overall. So the times by Jeannie Rice are indeed remarkable. I can’t wrap my mind around my fastest times at 7:49 for 26.2 miles. My goal is to best 4:00:00.
Happy, and long trails to you, my FRiend.

I take my car everywhere. I go 69, 70, 71 and in comfort : )
