Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyders patience ran out with Jay Gruden.
Gruden got more time than any other coach under Snyder, but it didnt pay off. Gruden was fired hours after losing to New England, in the middle of his sixth season after a terrible start to the year. Washington fell to 0-5 after a 33-7 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday. Washington had been outscored by 78 points in its first five games. Gruden was 35-49-1 as Washingtons coach. Hes the first head coach fired this season.

Nobody has a track record of failure like Snyder.
If Snyder is the worst, Mike Brown is a close second. Bengals haven’t had a winning season in years. 0-5 so far this year, too.
Fire Bruce Allen. Too bad Snyder can’t fire himself.
LOL you beat me to it. I think Brown wins the race. He KNOWS what to do, he just doesn't want to pay for it.
Kind of funny that, after Jay Gruden was a complete DISASTER in Cincy as an offensive coordinator, he got hired by the other terrible owner to be a Head Coach. I NEVER Thought that was going to work. Shocked that it took this long.
It’s the money factor. The Redskins are one of the wealthiest franchises in the league. The other “loser” clubs struggle because they have less cash. The Redskins DO NOT HAVE THAT PROBLEM.
“Until the Skins get a coach that can come to that understanding with the upstairs office, and enforce it, theyll continue to fail.”
A COACH can’t enforce that, they can tell the ownership that but they can’t enforce it... The coach’s paycheck is signed by that owner.. they have ZERO ability to enforce their will on the owner. They can inform him, that is what needs to happen, but the ownership but willingly change their ways, a coach cannot force them to...
Got that right. A continuing 20 yr downward slide. Allen could not run a Pop Warner team and Snyder has destroyed what once was one of the most loyal and passionate fan bases for any NFL team.
Dean Spanos is the worst owner in the NFL. Snyder may be a loser, but at least he has not moved the team to another city.
Bidwill family. 6 playoff wins in 100 years.
Like I keep saying Dan Snyder will spare no expense building the worst team in the NFC East.
Can the league make him sell?
This is the problem. They will end up 8-8. Again.
No chance of a Super Bowl quality team. We need to clean out the coaching staff. I know a Belichek only comes around once in a lifetime, but we can at least look.
One example: In the first 10 minutes twice the pass rush had Rodgers ready for a sack, but then he did an underhand flip to a wide open back. Once is tolerable, not twice. No LB was within five yards. Not acceptable. Belicheck would have had that scouted so that it never happened once.
JKC also did everything he could to keep the team in DC. RFK was small and old and he wanted a new modern stadium for the team and fans.
IMVHO the suits in DC missed the boat when they made him look outside the District for a home.
He wanted a fan friendly stadium that people would love for generations.
He had the front row of seats calculated so fans could see over the tallest players. He also demanded that every seat have a great view of the field, all sections have ready access to concessions and bathrooms and parking was spacious.
He also spent his own money to build the stadium.
When Snyder bought the team and stadium he screwed everything up in order to maximise revenue.
He added five rows of overpriced “Dream Seats” that are so low the fans have to stand to see the field.
Snyder introduced premium “Zones” such as the Touchdown Zone and the Tailgate Zone that require paid membership. You don’t have a membership You can’t use that entrance/exit.
Due to lower attendance the club has removed seats in the upper decks starting in 2011.
To date they have removed approximately 20,000 seats so they can maintain their blackout tv status.
While I never particularly followed the team I had respect for JKC.
None at all for Snyder.
Remember when Dan Snyder nearly destroyed Six Flags Amusements? He lost his entire investment and was kicked out when they filed for bankruptcy.
Since then, they are now the largest theme park company in this country, and just tried to buy out Cedar Fair.
When Jack Kent Cooke died, it was a sad day for Washington. When his children couldn’t figure out how to run a team together, that was also a sad day, because it let Dan Snyder in.
He has done nothing, except make money on the fact that you can’t just make your own football team. In a free market, he’d be toast.
But we are stuck with him, it appears, and so the Redskins will keep losing, and it’s nice that I don’t care one bit anymore, because Snyder ruined the team long ago.
"The culture is actually damn good."
Too bad he didn't spend money on building a decent parking lot. You pay $40 to park in a muddy field.
- first in the league to charge fans to watch a preseason practice
- Made fans get a Redskin MasterCard to purchase their tickets
- While thousands were on a wait list for tickets, gave people 'in power' head of the line opportunities to buy tickets ...
- the list goes on ...
“Too bad he didn’t spend money on building a decent parking lot. You pay $40 to park in a muddy field.”
Never been so I can’t say about the parking. Has it been that way from the beginning or is it a Snyder problem?
