Thank you for sharing this, great example for other business leaders to follow.
My father in law was in WWII. The Army brought him home on the Queen Mary (as I recall) then the Army sent him home. He went to work on the ranch my mother in law’s family owned for several years. They sold the ranch and he applied for a job as a civilian at a nearby Army Post. Did all the paperwork to be hired...they told him there was a problem...he had never been discharged from the Army. His discharge papers were not complete.
He had copies but they said the process was not completed. They joked about it and told him they would get it straightened out and they were going to hire him for the job he applied for. They did get it all sorted out, and hired him- but it took a while as you can imagine when it is something like that. During the process he said he joked to them that the Army owed him a lot of back pay if he wasn’t actually discharged. They reminded him he could also be considered AWOL for that time.
I guess in the chaos after the war ended someone just dropped the ball on processing him out.
Loved the Blue Book, thanks for sharing the link. Now I want to work for Anixter.
I got out of the service in 1974 moved to State X (the one I enlisted from) and was told I was eligible for $50 for each month I was in VN. I received the correct amount of money which we spent. Within 60 days I was hired for a Police job in State Y and received a letter from that I was eligible for $50 for each month I spent in VN and they apparently used the copy of my DD 214 to file for me. Damned if I didn’t get a check from Y. I wrote to X and wondered if this is legit to get one from them and also Y and where do I send the repayment? Got a letter from them saying (paraphrased)” We are so sorry about overlooking your paperwork. Please find enclosed a check for ______.” We didn’t spend that one so I wrote to State Y and pretty much explained that I already got ONE check from X and did they want their money paid back and where do I send it? Holy crap! State Y sent a letter saying (paraphrased)” We are so sorry about overlooking your paperwork. Please find enclosed a check for ______.” Tried calling them both and got the same letters from both of them AGAIN. I cashed all the checks and got a separate account for them, awaiting the day they caught up with me. My wife died in 2010 and going through her papers, I found a bank book with a large sum of money coming to me! Now you know why the X’s and Y’s.
Golly gee, he must have been really sick!
“Get well soon!” LOL
If you think the salaries are insanely good, wait til you get a load of the cadillac health care bennies and the pensions...
Blame it on the lucky red swingline!
Just think about how much it would have been if it had been it was invested in a couple of good mutual funds.

So, the people who clean the subways get $65,000 a year?
That’s $15,000 more than teachers get in my state.
Is there any wonder government can’t run anything without losing money?
