A Bronx subway cleaner who was arrested last week while collecting his paycheck was shocked to discover hed actually been fired years earlier, The Post has learned.
He collected roughly $250,000 before someone at the MTA realized there was a problem and sounded the alarm, sources told The Post.
If Im terminated, how am I still collecting checks? Berry said he asked a boss after his arrest.
Thats not my problem, thats payrolls problem, the boss allegedly told him.
The MTA is investigating after a Transit manager raised internal questions, a spokesman said.

After retiring to Florida at 70, he continued to receive a paycheck in the mail. He returned to the office with a hand full of checks, they said, no mistake cash them! When he died at age 92, my mother went in with a bunch of checks, they said cash them!
They were extremely good to my father.
Look for the union label.
Was the subway cleaner still going to work is a better question.
If I was him I’d say “They told me I’d be getting severance pay, and I figure they still owe me!”
Sounds like the movie “Office Space.” They need to “Fix the glitch.”
Subway cleaners make $125k?
Sounds like $250,000 over a couple years.
I wouldn’t be surprised if their high-ups make close to six figures though. Gotta love public sector unions.
#1..That company MTA needs a good, deep dish audit, like yesterday!
#2..The guilty man looks a lot like Jerry Rice, formerly of the ‘49’ners in San Francisco.
Yes, they were. Probably very thankful for helping the business grow beyond expectations.
I guess they fixed the glitch.
So...they just fixed the "glitch."
Back in the early 1970s, an Army Staff Sgt. coming back from Vietnam was granted leave with written instructions to await orders; so he did until it was time to submit his retirement paperwork about eight years later.
Not much the Army could do since he was following orders. He wasnt the only one.
as an RN, caring for the sick and dying, important work, essential work, and subway cleaners make this kind of money?.....
Milton is the first thing I thought of. “We fixed the glitch.” LOL...
Let me get this straight, he hasn’t shown up for work in over 4 years but is surprised that he had been fired?
Annixter is a big company. I’ve known the name since the 80s.
Nope, he claims he was on sick leave. Four year’s worth.
Back in my asphalt days the checks for my crew were delivered to me and one day I got them and there were 5 or 6 ‘new’ ones in my stack. I just noticed but didn’t really pay attention and called payroll to tell them she made a mistake and sent me another crews checks.
Turns out she was out sick and had forgotten to ‘separate’ them before distribution and upon further notice one of the checks was made out to HER nephew who I had fired 2 months earlier.
Seems she was making a small ‘tip’ each week with a ‘dummy payroll’ charged to MY crew. I immediately ‘ratted her out’ to the owners and when she returned the auditors had down their job and the police were doing theirs, hauling her off in cuffs.
ALWAYS suspicion it when your ‘money handlers’ NEVER take a day off or show up with a new(er) vehicle.
thankful for helping the business grow beyond expectations.
Yes, they were.
When the company went public, they set him up with warrants and a long expiration date.
When they bought a house in Florida, they just called the broker to cash in what they needed.
Very nice people and not just the money.
Anixter is a big company.
They are huge but ran into major problems years back and Sam Zell took them over.
They have mostly recovered.
