DALLAS (KRLD) - Amber Guyger has been sentenced to ten years in prison for the murder of her neighbor Botham Jean.
Jurors were considering the sentence for a former Dallas police officer whom they convicted of murder for shooting her neighbor in his apartment, which she says she mistook for her own unit one floor below.

From what I am seeing she is not getting a 3G conviction but a 2G conviction so she only has to do 25% of the time and then she’d be eligible for parole.
How many burglars would be sitting on the sofa eating a bowl of ice cream? Why was it necessary to use deadly force against a man sitting on the sofa eating a bowl of ice cream? Why does the reason she barged into the man’s apartment and shot hit make any difference? Would it make any difference for anybody else? I don’t believe it would. She murdered the man in his own home, minding his own business, enjoying a bowl of ice cream. I refuse to make excuses for her, she stupidly took the life of that man and is getting off lightly.
“I think it was an excessive sentence for what was clearly a mistake.”
Would you think the same thing if the black guy had accidentally walked into her apartment and shot her...a cop...thinking an armed woman in his apartment was an immediate threat to his life?
Murder, both Capital and 1st Degree, fall under to 50% rule per 73rd Legislature bill 1067.
Texas Homicide law has different categories than first/second/third.
"Capital Murder" (Capitol Felony)
"Murder" (First Degree Felony)
"Murder" (Second Degree Felony)
"Manslaughter" (Second Degree Felony)
"Criminally Negligent Homicide" (State Jail Felony)
Guyger was convicted of "Murder" (First Degree Felony), which is called 2nd Degree Murder in most states. The Jury did NOT lower the charge to a 2nd Degree Felony, though they did give her a sentence that fits into that category.
I am not defending her.
I am stating that it has the stink of a racial prosecution on it.
By the way, I was speaking figuratively, not literally about rifling through drawers. I was going on what was in the linked article.
Note the Judge wiping her eye at this time.
That cop in Minneapolis is a “protected” species......mooselimb, somali, not white trailer. So he’s free, and she’s munching carpet.
A jury of her peers said otherwise.
How frequently did it lead to other shootings?
No, he is not "free". Noor was also convicted, and sentenced to 12-1/2 years in prison, and will be eligible for parole in 8 years. Guyger will likely be free before he is.
Not how it happened. She found the door ajar and heard someone inside while she was still OUTSIDE the apartment. Instead of backing away and using the radio she had on her to call for backup, she drew her weapon and entered on her own. I'm sure this played a very large part in the verdict. If she had just stopped for a moment and thought, she might have noticed little things like the red doormat, and no one would have died that night.
She should have left a bloody glove at the scene.
well thats good to know. last I heard, his partner wasn’t co operating, but must have had a change of heart.
I would argue that your average white woman is not as dangerous as your average black man.
Remember, Jesse Jackson did not get scairt when white people walked up on him. But he did when it was black men.
I think she over-reacted - but I would go for my gun too if i walked into the wrong apartment and saw a black guy there. I would not have shot unless attacked, but I would have been prepared.
Years ago, I read an article saying that in Washington, DC, the average sentence for armed robbery was 5.5 years and the average for murder was 7.5 years.
Any wonder that thugs knocking off a 7-11 so often shoot the only witness?
Maybe you haven't been following this case. She didn't "walk in and see a black guy". She went to put her key in and found the door was ajar. Then, she heard someone inside (probably the TV, as he was sitting on his couch, watching TV with a bowl of ice cream) what she thought was her apartment while she was still OUTSIDE in the HALL. Instead of stepping back and calling for backup (she was in uniform, including radio), she drew her weapon, opened the door and entered to confront the "intruder". Considering her mindset, I think the shooting was almost unavoidable at that point.
“Guyger will be eligible for parole after serving five years in prison.”
Out in Five if a good girl
Like most women in the joint shell have a lover
