Norman Lykes house, designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright, will be up for auction on Oct. 16. It was the last residence designed by Wright, who designed many iconic homes, including "Fallingwater" in Pennsylvania, as well as the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York City.
The home was last listed for $2.65 million by The Agency, but it has been on and off the market since 2016. The Phoenix, Arizona, home will be auctioned off, regardless of price, by Heritage Auctions.
"Curved lines in the home play off the curves of the Phoenix Mountains, and the cantilevered roofline provides natural shade on the south-facing façade," Brent Lewis, director of design for Heritage Auctions, says. "The windows never see direct sun, yet the house is light and bright."
Throughout the home, there is mahogany woodwork and built-in furniture. The terrace pool, which overlooks Palm Canyon and the valley, is lined with mother-of-pearl.

Most of his buildings are not very functional as buildings.
The roof of the Johnson Wax building has never not leaked.
The foundation that manages Fallingwater spends millions each year trying to keep it from washing down over the cliff.
His Eusonian homes in the Midwest are very hard to sell because he inaccurately predicted that future Americans would eschew material possessions, so he built them without closets.
I see those houses and my brain hears Jan Brady whining “Marcia, Marcia, Marcia...”
Some I like, some I don’t. This one, I don’t. It isn’t practical for a family home. Too much wasted space, it’s cold and I’d fall on my face every time I walked across that floor.
HGVT bought the opening credits house and remodeled it into what the viewers saw on tv. That’s a much better house, imo, than this FLW monstrosity.
That’s the way most of the fancy homes on YouTube feel as well. All about the designer on an unlimited budget. Look like fancy hotel lobbies/spas, not homes. But I’m sure they’re crying in their bisque & champagne as we speak!
To me that looks like metal rather than tar paper flashing.
He had dramatic architecture but Sometimes at the cost of some structural, glazing,or roofing problems. (Johnson and Johnson headquarters. The Glass roof—as you would expect—leaks a lot. “Falling water” had some problems with the glass walls.
7 things Frank Lloyd Wright got wrong about design.

Meh. Never been much of a fan of his work. I hate open floor plans with a passion.
I love the older, more traditional homes, such as Victorians, Stone houses from the Revolutionary War Period and the Southern Antebellum Plantation styles.
I also love Dutch Colonials. This may sound weird but one example of a Dutch Colonial that I love is the infamous Amityville Horror House. That house is stunningly beautiful, despite the tragic DeFeo massacre which took place inside the home.
Im just not a fan of modern homes with the ubiquitous open floor plans. Older homes have craftsmanship and character that newer homes do not have. Plus, open floor plans take away privacy.
He was amazing.
Beautiful.
I love Victorians. Large, square rooms, beautiful stained glass.
FLW was big into Carports.
Yes, they are beautiful:)
Yeah. OK for Arizona, but not so hot for New England. ;-)
I really don’t care much for FLW’s designs, but whenever I express my opinion about it I feel like Ellsworth M. Toohey.
:-)
Yep!
