Ethnographic Expedition on a Range Rover
Ethnographic Expedition 2008. Part XII ^ | Artemiy Lebedev

Repairing the engine, replacing the oil cooler, intercooler and rear shock absorber plus other minor miscellanea came out to an astronomical sum. The only official Land Rover dealer in all of Mongolia, a company by the name of Wagner, charged me five times the cost of the tools needed to assemble the engine. This was no mistake: the owner of a Land Rover vehicle is expected to not only pay but to significantly overpay for things he doesn’t even need. They just forget to mention that in the ads.... There are a number of repair shops that only repair Mercedes. There aren’t any that only repair Hondas. There is a reason.

Good point. I agree.

Did you own RR? Cayenne feels like junk comparing to it. RR is a Rolls-Royce of SUVs.

I’m on my second Range Rover Sport Supercharged, not a single problem with the first one, nine thousand miles in on the second, and no issues.
But, Lucas you know, and all that.

GEN IV had pricy mechanical issues on early vehicles but most fixed under warranty. Generally a solid SUV since 2013.
GEN III of BMW era has poor reputation and mostly deserve it although I had a mid-00s Vogue bought used and had no issues whatsoever. The problem was quality German gear assembled 1970s Limey style: Lada grade wiring between BMW parts, crappy gaskets and so on. There were a lot of places they needlessly saved money.

The ride, space, etc is just hands down superior in a RR.

The Cayenne feels plastic — and is probably the same, or worse, to fix.

The supercharged V8 in my RR is pretty amazing and it’s quiet and peaceful in the car that doesn’t drive like the 5,000lb (or more, don’t know) hunk of aluminum that it is.

See post #22. People bashing RR just can’t arrord it.
