Jeeves: "Life is like that, sir."
Bertie: "True, Jeeves. What have we here?" I asked, inspecting the tray.
Jeeves:"Kippered herrings, sir."
Bertie:"And I shouldn't wonder" I said, for I was in a thoughtful mood, "if even herrings haven't troubles of their own."
Jeeves: "Quite possibly, sir."
Bertie: "I mean, apart from getting kippered."
Jeeves: "Yes, sir."

Wodehouse is good for a laugh.
I love Wodehouse but haven’t read him for a while. It’s hard to stay in a bad mood while reading Wodehouse. Thanks for posting. I might go look for one of his books tonight.
Well, if you don’t have a book handy, my link is to a complete copy of short stories. I recommend”Jeeves and the Old School Chum” and “Jeeves and the Song of Songs” (the song being “Sonny, Boy”).
BTW, where are you on the southside of Chicago? I lived there long enough ago to have voted for Bernard Epton.
some lighter fare too:
My Kids Laugh because they think I’m Crazy- I Laugh because they don’t know it’s hereditary
I wasn’t planning on going for a run today, but my goodness, those cops came out of nowhere
Taking a dog named shark to the beach is not a good idea
I just bought a head of lettuce, should I throw it out now? Or wait two weeks like i usually do?
I like to keep a potato masher in the silverware drawer because some days you just don’t want the drawer to open right away
Love Woo0ehhouse,u ndererstood people so well.
Thanks. I saw that after I posted. Very handy.
I lived in the Hegewisch neighborhood on the far south side for twelve years until I escaped across the border to Indiana six years ago.
Bernard Epton: there’s a blast from the past. I was in the suburbs when he ran. I used to live in Henry Hyde’s district.
LO! Love Woodhouse, umderstood people so weii.,..
P. G. Wodehouse is the funniest writer of the 20th century.
Wodehouse describes a protagonist He was of that crookedness, that he could hide behind a spiral staircase at will. Describes Adam Shiff rather well.
I really like Wodehouse, too, but my vote for the funniest author is Patrick F. McManus. His story about "Getting Lost" and utilizing the "Modified Stationary Panic" rather that the "Full-Bore Linear Panic" is a riot.
In the"Full-Bore Linear Panic", when you realize that you are well & truly lost, you run off in one direction until you carom off a tree or large boulder, assuming a new direction. Hard on the body.
The "Modified Stationary Panic" is characterized by the motto, "When in danger, when in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout".
How about S. J. Perelman and Guy Gilpatric?
I love Wodehouse. I always tell folks that they should listen to a story or two of his read by a Brit (a lot of British actors used to make a decent living playing Bertie Wooster on stage), so that they would get the rhythm of the speech patterns, and how the stories are paced.
We have the entire “Jeeves and Wooster” series with Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry. It’s a hoot.
One of the most clever and brilliant authors of all time. You can’t go wrong with Wodehouse..
My wife and kids always know when I’m reading Wodehouse, the laughter from the den is constant and continuous.
While I love any story with Bertie and Jeeves, my favorite Wodehouse short story is “Crime Wave at Blandings.” Even though I’ve read it probably 30-50 times, I still cannot help but laugh myself to tears.
