On a crowded platform during the morning rush in the Bronx, commuters jumped into action to save a little girl's life.
Police say a 45-year-old man jumped onto the subway tracks Monday morning while holding onto his 5-year-old daughter.
The man, later identified as Fernando Balbuena-Flores, was hit by an oncoming 4 train and was pronounced dead at the scene. However, his daughter managed to find a safe spot and was not seriously hurt.

You are mistaken/uninformed about people with Spanish surnames, especially in the Southwestern states-my Spanish surname was brought to Texas and NM in the late 1700’s from Mexico by my Spanish Basque ancestors when the SW was Spanish territory-that makes them Americans before there was an America.
There has never been a mojado in my family, or a democrat voted for since JFK-in the rural areas of the SW like this one, it is not unusual for 1/2 the surnames to be Spanish-many old, old families still live on and ranch/farm land-and they are not democrats or mojados...

That is an incorrect assumption, senor-quite a few people in this country legally don’t speak much/any English-out here in BFE, they are green card workers employed in everything from construction to ranch handing-most are working to get money to pay for school and leave at the end of Summer-others join the military-there are also tourists from Mexico booking cabins on the river and at guest ranches in the area year-tound-they don’t speak English for the most part. Like many others here, I’ve spoken Spanish as a 2nd language from early childhood-it does not make me a mojado...
best not to assume anything about legal status in a tragedy like this one. lets just rejoice the child did not die with her dads suicide.
What a terrible thing for that girl to have to live with the rest of her life. I hope somehow she’s able to turn it into a blessing for herself.
In Virginia from the time I moved here until the late 1990’s the only Spanish speaking person I ran into was my wife’s aunt, she’s from Spain.
She says the recent arrivals don’t speak Spanish.

The 1st Europeans in Texas and the rest of the Southwest were Spaniards, beginning in the 16th century-Texas was Spanish territory until 1820, then part of Mexico until 1836-since that was not the case with Virginia, it is no surprise there are not many people of Spanish ancestry there...
Most green card holders do speak some English and understand more-but that is because they either have student visas as well as work permits, or they plan to join the military. Most of the tourists speak little or no English-but most of us speak Spanish anyway, so it is not a big deal. In cities not as many people who are Hispanic speak Spanish as out here-but they don’t deal with as many tourists or business people from across the border as those of us in the country do...
Well, there is always the option of granting Puerto Rico its desired independence, and revoking US citizenship....
I've worked with a number of folks from Puerto Rico, and they were all good folk, but they all did seem to want to return to the island when they retired with nice pensions.
