That’s odd, I didn’t find his UN speech defensive.

OK, I scared the bunny and the squirrels yelling This little psycho need to disappear, her 15 minutes is so over.
It was an excellent speech, and only a small portion of it did he deal with the Ukraine issue, but still, the fact that it was in there at all is a response to domestic issues. It's not something that he planned to talk about a few weeks ago when he started working on the speech, I'm pretty sure.
Here is a partial transcript with extended quote from the CBS News coverage of the speech:
I think it's fair to characterize the inclusion of this as "Trump being on the defensive". But, if you don't that's cool. There is an aggressive edge to it: that he still wants Biden investigated. I like that, but it may be too late for him to pursue it.Trump defends temporarily withholding Ukraine aid President Trump, when asked about his decision to block aid to Ukraine shortly before his call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, he said he "wanted other countries to put up money."
"We paid the money," he said, arguing that other European countries should help Ukraine with its defenses. "That's been my complaint from the very beginning," Mr. Trump added.
And in language that echoed his sentiment about the 2016 Russia investigation, Mr. Trump decried the Ukraine controversy as a "witch hunt" when addressing reporters shortly before his speech before the United Nations General Assembly.
He again described his call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as "perfect" and maintained that he had applied no pressure on him to investigate Joe and Hunter Biden.
"But there was pressure put on with respect for [Joe] Biden's son," he argued. "That's something they should be looking at," he said.
To some extent the Dem strategy seems to be to make the Ukraine issue toxic for Trump, so that he can't use it to harm Biden.
It's seems like a lot of hassle to protect Biden, but I guess he is still the nominal frontrunner.
I think he's not going to hold onto that position much longer, he's just not a very good candidate, and he's got a lot of baggage.
Lie-a-watha looks like the eventual nominee. But still, it's a pack instinct, "Protect Biden".

Jacquie is accepting the polls on Trump’s popularity as accurate. Anyone who accepts such polls at face value is an obvious liar and also as someone who wants to sow defeatism. Plus the claim that Trump is defensive. What obvious bulls***.
Jacks just doing his job, which is to spin things as negatively as possible. Its what he does.
