(Vanity) Gun Control and Inverse Expectations
VERY brief vanity | 9/20/2019 | By Laz A. Mataz

Posted on 09/19/2019 9:00:32 PM PDT by Lazamataz

Apologize for such a short vanity, but I want to express a thought that is distressing me a lot:

In the era of Obama, I worried about new and restrictive gun control laws, and none came.

Yet...

In the era of Trump, I was sure new and restrictive gun control laws would not come, but now I have to worry about them.

It boggles the mind.

Thanks!

Compose your own letter and send it to POTUS, your CongressCritter and both Senators!

Encourage your email buddies to do likewise!

We MUST stop this vile and hateful anti-American, anti-citizen, anti-Second Amendment movement NOW!

Problem with that is this.

There is no willingness to do a deal with these bastard communists.

Not one iota of freedom will I give them, and Trump does not have the authority to negotiate my freedom or anyone else’s freedom.

This isn’t up for discussion. There is no discussion, and there will never be a discussion.

If one wants to stop mass shootings, then one better look into security, because my freedom belongs to God.

My CongressCritter is James E. Clyburn ever since my house was gerrymandered into his corrupt district.

My Senator is Flimsey Tinkerbelle. Mr. Red Flag with lifetime tenure.

So I have been emailing the President through whitehouse.gov several times a week.

Go ye and do likewise.

Laz, this is a survival moment for our freedoms, all of them.

Only one man can save us. If you haven’t prayed yet, pray now!

JMO of what is happening ........

Have you noticed that POTUS will often say some “wacky” thing and then do the opposite? Most of the time when he does this, he manages to get the Dems/libs all spun up and they come out in vigorous opposition to what he has said. Next, POTUS “clarifies” what he meant and it turns out to be another win for him/conservatives.

Example: POTUS: the Mueller investigation is a gigantic waste of taxpayer money, a witch hunt, etc. Result: Mueller testimony and 100% or close to it of all the Dems (maybe Rs, too) opened their questioning by stating emphatically that no one is above the law. Next they acknowledged that perhaps a sitting President can’t be indicted, but once he’s out of office he can. All of these Dems were gleefully rubbing their hands together and planning to indict Trump after he’s out of office. But what they were too stupid to realize that what applies to one President also applies to ALL. BJC, 0vomit. :-) I can see future indictments coming for them and now we have all the Dems on record in favor of it being perfectly legal. In fact, demanding that it be done. Thank you, President Trump, for having them clarify that position!)

Ok, so back to red flag laws. I am completely in agreement with you and against any laws that will restrict our 2A rights. I am not seeing exactly how this might play out, but having observed how Trump plays this game for the past 2.5 years, I am 99% confident that we will be happy with the result.

I am actually expecting an expansion of our 2A rights. Maybe “expansion” isn’t quite the right word. Maybe “restoration” is more accurate. An American citizen should NOT have to worry about driving across state lines with a weapon, shouldn’t have to worry about “reciprocal” permitting or any of that nonsense. I’m in favor of nationwide rights for open carry and concealed carry. Why should I need “permission” to exercise a fundamental Constitutional right?

On the surface, it seems reasonable to have red flag laws restricting crazies from having/carrying guns. On the surface. The parallel is that we have 1A rights but still cannot yell “fire” in a crowded theater. But look past the surface. If someone is so dangerous/crazy that they need to have their Constitutional rights restricted, then why is that person out loose in society in the first place?

The problem should not be “fixed” by removing rights from all of us. The problem should be fixed by removing rights only from the crazy person. The main danger here is the danger that if lefties were in control, their play might be to have all gun owners or all conservatives declared mentally unbalanced and have them committed or locked up. But in an ironic twist, it is exactly our 2A rights that would protect us from that.

So... I am going to let this one ride for a bit to see how Trump handles it. For now, I’m confident that he’ll do the right thing. I watch what he does and the results that he gets. (I also watch what he says, but I see that more as trolling the left and setting the stage for action.)

Again, JMO. YMMV.

Taking a pro 2nd Amendment stance will certainly lose the extreme leftists

but he'll never get them anyway. Those folk actually LIKE Bernie Sanders.

Signing on to any form of gun control is a losing proposition for President Trump. He won't gain the leftists' votes and he'll lose votes on the right.

Anyone advising him otherwise is a traitor.

President Trump: What gun control laws do you propose to REPEAL?

I pray you are right. I agree, I have seen this as his modus operendi, but OTOH, he’s uttered too many gun-compromising comments before and during his presidency for me to be completely comfortable, yet.

Who’s telling him this is probably using he “Suburban Soccer Mom” argument. I think it’s a poor argument. For one thing, I think everyone already has an opinion on Trump. Those lines are fairly well set. The only arguments worth using for Trump are economic success! Those arguments also will have the happy effect of bringing out to vote those who don’t normally vote! I still don’t think Trump has done any more then scratch the surface of that mother lode. Better then most but a long way to go. I was disappointed in the 2016 showing numbers of “never & rarely voters”. ( I define these as voters who have convinced themselves its a waste of time to vote!)

Good points all.

Personally, I think voting is a waste of time … but I do it anyway. I’d feel like a schmuck if I didn’t.

These days, if you write to a liberal solon to disagree from a conservative point of view, he/she will add you to their s***list to have you Red Flagged should such a law be passed.

Trump in the last 48 hours said that after Bobby O’Rourke’s threats to seize all privately owned firearms that any deals on gun control are now dead.

I don’t think Trump really meant to get any gun control passed but by agreeing to discuss it he stole the momentum from the Democrats and the issue has started to fade away.

Now it’s a non-starter because the Democrats are openly calling for confiscation proving that any compromises on guns will not include compromises in our direction...just theirs.

And that’s not a deal anymore than trade with China is a ‘deal’.

Great post and a valid question, Mr. Lazamataz!
