AT&T Inc. is exploring parting with its DirecTV satellite unit...a move that would mark a mark a sharp course correction in strategy for Chief Executive Randall Stephenson, who billed his $49 billion bet on the satellite provider as a key to the phone giants future...AT&T acquired DirecTV in 2015 for $49 billion. The companys shrinking satellite business is under a microscope after activist investor Elliott Management Corp. disclosed a $3.2 billion stake in AT&T last week and released a report pushing for strategic changes. Elliott has told investors that AT&T should unload DirecTV...

Yeh because people are dumping cable TV. We cut off Direct TV mos ago and went to Netflix. Saving a ton of money.
The worst customer service we’ve ever dealt with I would throw the damn TV out the window and get something else
I cutoff AT&T and Direct TV as AT&T raised the rates by doubling them. when I called to cancel, AT&T offered to slash the monthly rates. Too late sleezebags.; Dish TV is super.
And pay obama every month? You DO know he and moochelle were fairly recently brought on to the netflix board of directors, yes? And since then, they publicize faggotry and trannies. My wife and I got rid of Netflix when all this came about
I’m 67 and have never seen a company I detest more than AT&T
What they should get rid of is CNN.
Who writes this stuff? High Screwel Gradumacates?
The telecom giant has considered various options, including a spinoff of DirecTV into a separate public company and a combination of DirecTV’s assets with Dish Network Corp., its satellite-TV rival, the people said.
AT&T may ultimately decide to keep DirecTV in the fold. Despite the satellite service’s struggles, as consumers drop their TV connections, it still contributes a sizable volume of cash flow and customer accounts to its parent.
There could be regulatory hurdles to any deal with Dish, which has about 12 million subscribers. When Dish’s predecessor EchoStar Communications Corp. and DirecTV’s former owner Hughes Electronics Corp. tried to merge in 2001, regulators ultimately blocked it on antitrust grounds, worried that many rural Americans would be left with only a single option to get their television service. More recently, Dish Chairman Charlie Ergen held talks to combine with DirecTV in 2014, but lost out to AT&T.
hay buddee I werked hard for my GED
“And pay obama every month? You DO know he and moochelle were fairly recently brought on to the netflix board of directors, yes?”
Don’t forget that Susan Rice hooked up with Netflix when Hussein and Chewy did.
“My wife and I got rid of Netflix when all this came about”
Ditto for us.
Did you ever try Dish?
I live where my only options are Dish and DirecTV. Waiting for my DirecTV DVR to die and then I’ll go back to DISH. Don’t like long term contracts either. AFter ATT took over DirecTV, DirecTV went from bad to really bad. DIsh does some of the same things. Neither makes a deal until they are forced to make a deal.
I’ve heard complaints about Direct TV rom every I know who has or had it. Same with Dish.
I still have Comcast, but it’s costing me more than I’d like. It’s particularly hard during the summer, when there’s so little original programming being aired. Food Network, Fox Sports Detroit and Cooking Channel comprise about 96% of what I watch. Fox broadcasting channel has Master Chef, which I like, but I think this year’s final episode airs tonight.
Been watching Amazon Prime some, but it takes a little work to find something worth watching. I have a Roku but haven’t set it up yet. Thinking about Hulu, maybe Netflix, but not both at the same time. If I cut the cord I want to save money.
Any recommendations would be welcome.
“AT&T Now Exploring Selling Its DirecTV Unit”
Wall Street Journal writers don’t know the difference between “it’s” and “its”? They must be hired right after fifth grade, because we covered this in sixth grade.
That payment to Obama is already factored in. Loss of immediate subscribers aren't going to do anything to Netflix's bottom line.
Besides, just don't watch whatever garbage Obama produces. Netflix bases their model on viewers tuning in to a particular show. Just like regular TV. If you don't watch it, it'll get the axe.
I believe the poster of the article made the error not the WSJ (if oyu go to the link).
I quit cable and satellite years ago, not because of cost or customer service but because of content. I refuse to support CNN, MSNBC, the homosexual channels, etc.
Well Direct TV is the cheapest option I have, since its bundled in with my phone package. It it gets dropped, Im dropping Direct TV.
After AT&T took over DirecTV they incrementally increased my monthly bill by over $100 per month. Then, when two of my HD boxes started acting up (they were the original HD design) AT&T told me I had to pay to have them replaced.
Right at that time Verizon finally dropped a FIOS line into my Cul De Sac and I was able to get more channels and better service while saving over $140 per month, so I told AT&T to pound sand. This was April of last year so I had been a DirecTV customer for exactly 18 years when I dumped them.
On top of saving a bunch of money I don’t lose my signal when it rains or snows.
when calling D* for any customer service my experiences are that calls are routed first to their Philippines call center. If you want to speak to their USA call centers that seem to offer higher quality service simply say Cancel Service when prompted by their auto answering service. Ive received many offers from the Retention Department that kept me a subscriber. At this point since I only watch a dozen channels, I cant justify $150 monthly bill for just one satellite box.
