HOCKLEY, Texas - A robbery at a drive-in theater in northwest Harris County ended with one of the suspects dead after a manager opened fire, authorities said.
The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. Monday at the Showboat Drive-In Theater on FM 2920 in Hockley, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities said preliminary information suggests two men sneaked into the concession stand while it was still open and waited for it to close.
They came out when they thought everyone was gone, but two managers were still upstairs and they heard rummaging, authorities said.
Owner Andrew Thomas said one of the managers went to investigate and encountered the men.
"At least one of them had a bat and hit her a couple times," Thomas said. "That's when she pulled her gun out (and opened fire)."
One of the men was killed at the scene, the other took off running across the empty parking lot, authorities said.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez commended the women for being in tune with their surroundings and jumping into action.
"These two ladies were pretty alert and sharp, it seems, and took care of business," Gonzalez said.
Authorities say the man who was killed was wearing a mask. The would-be burglars had a baseball bat and at least one knife, deputies said.
Deputies tried tracking down the second person, but so far have been unable to find him, authorities said.
That was my first take on it.
That's because tin foil had been made from aluminum for years now. The core knowledge of tinfoil had been lost to the ages..
” What is up with all these masked intruders?”
There are so many cameras out there now.
someone was steamed...
Good point.
Rural Texas has a lot of people who carry firearms.
Got to watch out for feral animals and feral people.
As I’m pretty sure that you know, Texas Resident, in 2017 THE SENIOR CAPTAIN of our Ranger Service said that he wished that we had MANY MORE licensed handgun carriers, as “- - — they are among the best citizens of our State”.
Note to NON-Texicans: The Senior Captain is THE senior serving Texas Ranger & whomever is the current Senior Ranger has serious political/social influence all across Texas.
(I was privileged to have known & worked cases with the late “Lefty” Block, when he was the Senior Ranger.)

Personally, I’m just sorry that he didn’t shoot both of the armed predators.
In our area of “eastside” San Antonio (Near Ft Sam Houston) most homes are occupied by gun-owners & just about once a day a householder STOPS an armed felon from completing their attempted crime, using his/her privately-owned firearm.
(Only about 25% of such incidents end in actual bloodshed, with the rest of the criminals fleeing for their life or in police custody.)
According to the BCSD, the most common firearm used in such home defense incidents, here in The Alamo City, is a 12-gauge pump shotgun.

Fayette Co...often referred to as Fayette Nam.
I’m surprised a drive-in could stay open nowadays with all of the young lowlifes running around these days.
Here in MA we use to have a lot of them, 3 withing 10 miles of my house.
the only ones i know of now is one far down on Cape Cod and one at Weirs Beach in Laconia, NH.
To open one around here i’m sure the liability insurance would be outrageous.
