Most massive neutron star ever detected, almost too massive to exist
Science Daily ^ | 16 September 2019

Astronomers have discovered the most massive neutron star to date, a rapidly spinning pulsar approximately 4,600 light-years from Earth. This record-breaking object is teetering on the edge of existence, approaching the theoretical maximum mass possible for a neutron star.

Reverse the polarity of the neutron flow.

just don't cross the streams.

Because crossing the streams is bad.

...approximately 4,600 light-years from Earth.

So what was happening on earth when what were seeing now left the star?

Almost to large to exist. That’s just stupid. What’s the headlines going to be when they find a larger one? And a larger on after that?

‘’Teetering on the edge of existence’’? All we need now is a big enough puddy cat to come along and push it off the edge.

If they do then there’s something missing in thermonuclear physics regarding neutrons. Which would be exciting!

Throw some more stuff at it and it will collapse into a singularity, ie. a black hole. Neutronium is dense stuff, densest matter there is but gravity will collapse it to a point when it collects more stuff. A cubic centimeter if my math is right is 440,924,524 tons. That would make a hell of a paper weight.

ps. Neutronium is largely theoretical has an atomic number of 0 and is a noble gas.

If it decided to im/explode 4,599 years ago, next year will be quite interesting for reasons other than mere elections.

In cosmic terms, 4600 light years ain’t much. But in real terms, it is a distance no human will ever travel.

That puny individual might weigh a couple tons on that star but might be lucky to be 1/8 inch tall.

Oh it is indeed. I’m just saying in terms of cosmic travel that’s not all that far.
