I read that newspapers circulation, of actual printed newspapers, has declined between 30 and 40 percent since the year 2000 in most cities.
It seems that since many of us are online, and get news online , that a printed newspaper is redundant, even if we liked the editorial judgement of a paper.
I buy an occasional Houston Chronicle for the sole purpose of starting my charcoals for my Weber Grill.
I didn’t leave the WSJ and National Review in the late 80’s early 90’s, they left me.
Investors Business Daily is kind of like The Hill, scattered with good articles, but a lot of leftist BS as well.
IBD doesnt like Trumps trade policy, at least thats the impression I get
I subscribe to NO publication, even my favorite baseball team’s leading newspaper for $1 because I will not support their hatred for my country.
The best part is that article I wanted to read becomes “free” in a few days so Im sure that known leftwing paper couldnt get people to buy in for a buck..
I did this 15 years ago. I also have entirely sworn off TV news. Not even ostensibly “conservative” sites like FOX.
As you say, papers are a dying media, and like all dying formats and ideologies, they actually become more concentrated, orthodox, and partisan as they decline - the bunker mentality.
But why should you eliminate TV news entirely?
TV news suffers from the same relative decline of influence, and growth in inherent bias - but TV is far worse. Time is money for them. Even an extremely important story will get no more than 3 minutes of reporting, and most TV news segments are given 30-45 seconds. How many real facts, nuance or historical background can be given to you in 30 seconds? Nothing. Add to that that TV media is controlled by an oligopoly of corrupt, deep state, political corporations, and it makes TV news pure garbage.
The internet has allowed new, incredible information formats to grow. There are tens of thousands of news, opinion, and investigative sites. With a simple search, you can find 10,000 word essays on a topic, listen to podcasts where experts speak on one issue for several hours, or you can even listen to the people involved speak on the topic themselves.
With this amount of direct information available, why would ANYONE want the over-processed, condensed, biased, dumbed-down intermediation of TV news and those who control it??
Well if they are so short-sighted as to not see & recognize the importance of challenging China on trade, then in my opinion they are pretty much useless. 8>)
No papers, no magazines... Used to get Two newspapers and ~ 12 magazines (between weekly and monthlies) ... Only read vintage History Books in paper form nowadays...
Yup.
Whats a newspaper?
As I dont keep a bird or currently need to wrap fish
Its all right here on line. I could get the big liberal newspaper on line but why? I get my news from FR. There are links to leftist and conservative newspapers here.
The spouse and I stopped supporting communist reporters and their "collective" livelihood 21 years ago, emphasis on collective. We figured we give them a taste of what they had in store for us "nobody's".
We supplemented our worldly knowledge of current events through FOX (local and National), Drudge(the early years), Investors, Rush Limbaugh, Hannity, local talk radio, but most importantly through Free Republic (JimRob) you're my hero.
Go to The FReep homepage and follow your favorite from there. Bookmark your favorite twitter feeds and you don't have to be a part of it if you don't want.
Free Republic is your home for election cycles and everyday news. The people here are amazing posting current events and it's healthier to read the comments of those who agree with how you think and there's plenty to learn from the members here too. Just please make sure you give up a bit of coin once in a while to keep the lights on here.
Good luck and Best FReegards,

LOL.....that's about the best use of the Hootin' Carbunkle I've ever heard!
Cancelled my subscriptions to the Atlanta Urinal Constipation & the WSJ years ago.
If I need newspapers for a home project, I’ll just grab a pile from the recycle bin at our local farmers market.
Was just going to suggest...

Well, there are still some people, who do not go online, and don’t see value in going online. With some of those people, part of it is just the old habit, of watching the CBS Evening News, or NBC Nightly News.
Some people also, believe it or not, think that there is actual journalism going on; that there are actual journalistic standards being used. So to such people, when Norah O’Donnell and her cronies report as fact that we are seeing global warming, such people take it as fact.
I get the every so often American Motors Owners Association magazine.
My wife is a steadfast Sunday subscriber to the worthless The State newspaper. At least I don’t pay for it.
Hell, if someone likes CBS, they can watch the evening news on line!
But I know what you mean. My 92 year old mother, who grew-up pre TV simply couldnt give up her local fish wrap subscription, even though it was taken over by neo-marxists and SJWs two decades ago. In her world, having a newspaper meant you were completely uninformed
