Lawrence Brooks — a man considered to be the nation's oldest living World War II veteran — celebrated a huge milestone in Louisiana last week: his 110th birthday. Brooks, born on Sept. 12, 1909, was honored on Thursday at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans. Spotted with a bright lipstick kiss on his cheek at the event, Brooks served in the 91st Engineer Battalion stationed in New Guinea and then the Philippines — a predominately African-American unit of the U.S. Army. The 110-year-old, who served between 1940 and 1945, was a servant to three white officers and his daily routine included cleaning their sheets and uniforms and shining their shoes. He attained the rank of Private 1st Class during the war.

How long after the last WWII veteran is gone before the Left denies WWII ever happened and there was no Hitler, not to mention the Holocaust?

Happy Birthday, Sir. Thank you.

“.... was a servant to three white officers and his daily routine included cleaning their sheets and uniforms and shining their shoes”.

He was an Orderly, not a servant.

The idiots tore down the statue of Lee at Lee’s Circle. This museum is 1/2 a block away. Probably only a matter of time.

BTW, if you’re ever in New Orleans this museum is definitely worth a visit.

(I don’t live in Nawlins. Just go there for conventions every couple of years.)

What a way to demean the man in a backhanded manner...

Nice job Fox

Well I love the South although right now I live in New Mexico. I’ll have to check out Lee’s Circle next time I’m down Nawlins’ way.

I even hear some Lefties tout that all the Japanese wanted to do was to rid Asia of Western Imperialists.

I’ve heard that.

There is no mention by the Left of the Bataan Death March, Japanese medical experiments on American POW’s, the Marshall Plan, the Berlin airlift, etc., etc. etc.

Yes, disgusting reporting. He wasn’t a servant, he was an Orderly. There were thousands of Orderlies, both black and white and many Philoppino Orderlies in the Navy in the Pacific Theater.

I’ll bet he was damn glad to have that job rather than carrying a rifle out in the jungle. Actually, they were being kind to him since he was in his 40’s. F the media.

In the UK:

"A batman or an orderly is a soldier or airman assigned to a commissioned officer as a personal servant. Before the advent of motorized transport, an officer's batman was also in charge of the officer's "bat-horse" that carried the pack saddle with his officer's kit during a campaign.

The U.K. English term is derived from the obsolete bat, meaning "pack saddle" (from French bât, from Old French bast, from Late Latin bastum)."

Good point and explanation. But the report should have been more clear.
