AUSTIN, Texas It could cost nearly $1 million to install 10 new drinking fountains throughout Downtown Austin as part of an effort by some council members to make free drinking water more accessible for everyone.
In a city memo released on Thursday, Austin Water identified 10 proposed locations for these fountains. At least two of them would be in the vicinity of the ARCH shelter on Seventh Street.
The ADA-compliant fountains would be free to use 24/7 and would be located in well-lit areas, according to the City. Each fountain would contain three components: a drinking fountain, a bottle-filling station and a pet fountain.

Their gonna need a toilet roll paper holder, because you know what this little public station is gonna morph into.
Some homeless folks will throw a pop-up tent over this station, and his/her/they/X will have running water in their new 'home'.
If they say it will cost 1 million then count on it costing at least 5 million.
History may repeat: 1854 Broad Street cholera outbreak
Typical LIB idiots spending other peoples’ money (OPM). What absolute lunacy.
Agreed, easier to buy a bottle of water ...
No I didn't. You said the fountains cost $10,000 for each one.
Austin's estimated costs were $1 million for 10 water fountains or $100,000 apiece.
$100,000 their cost minus $10,000 actual cost is $90,000 in excess costs for each fountain.
You're mixing apples and oranges. You're conflating total costs ($1 million) with per unit costs ($100,000).
Whose relative is getting $10 million for this project?
They used to be at all gas stations, and they were free. Now nothing gets done in these libtard cities for under a million. What crap.
Why is it hard to believe that price tag?
Anything taxpayer funded costs more.
The government simply reaches into your pocket & takes as much as it wants to take— because it can.
That’s $100,000 each, folks.
Hey, here’s an idea.
Why not get those water fountain / pissoir combos like the ones at the ICE detention facilities?
What is a drinking fountain? Is that the same thing as a water fountain?? Or will the fountain serve drinks? I’m confused here.
Or to save money, instead of paying disabled vets to man the kiosks, make crooked lawyers or people arrested for a DUI who have to do "community service" staff them for free.
Thank you for correcting me
Why are they paying anything? I thought everything was free!
