The press is supposed to serve a function — supposed to question and challenge authority — I get all that.
But when it questions/challenges only one side of authority, and aids and abets abuses by the other side, it is not performing that function.
And that is the situation we have in the US today. It has always been this way, ever since the slavers were founding newspapers named “Democrat” back in the 1830s — but it is all exacerbated and exaggerated because Trump is so robust in his approahc to handling their perfidy.

The press is supposed to ask questions and honestly report the answers. Editorial remarks - such as “challenging” - are not reporting. Reporters report facts, editorial commentary or analysis is a different matter.
