Newly Identified Electric Eel Species Is Most Shocking Animal Ever
Gizmondo ^ | 10 Sept 2019 | Ryan F. Mandelbaum

“The discovery of hidden species diversity on such an eye-catching (more than 2.5 meters/8 feet long) and long-known (described 250 years ago) organism... indicates that an enormous amount of species are waiting to be discovered in the Amazon rainforest,”

The researchers examined 107 electric eels taken from waters across northern South America, measuring different parts of their body and analyzing their DNA.

The analysis also revealed that E. voltai could produce shocks up to 860 volts, higher than has been measured for electric eels or any other organism before. The third rail powering New York City’s subway system carries 625 volts, while electric chairs used for executions produce over 2,000 volts.

What I’d like to know is whether possession (in lieu of a taser) constitutes a criminal offense in NYC.

Any form of self-defense is a criminal offense in New York.

Thanks for the heads up.

Now I’ll be watching animal attacks on YouTube later tonight. I heard Joe Rogan talking to Bill Burr about bear attacks earlier...

and the Chinese consider it a delicacy. LOL

Eel pie is very big in parts of England.

IIRC each year they make a special one for the Queen.

depends on how much resistance you give to the eels advances

E = I x R

Willard “Betcha can’t pee on it.” Ralph “Here hold Mah beer”.

A relative that had some Applossas, pointed to one that was slightly moving next to the electric fence, and claimed the horse was ‘playing’ with the timing of the fence?

He may have been giving me horse crap, I never knew for certain?

I saw what they did there. But still fell flat.

It’s not the volts, it’s the amps that kill you. How many amps does an eel generate?

I was looking for your comment.

I’ve got horses, have had for years. They can sense when my electric ribbon fence is hot or not. I’ve never seen mine do that but my fence is continuous, very low amperage. The Willard and Ralph thing is barn yard/farm boy humor. Horses are smart as a dog. I had a lab that got his tail bit going under the fence once. He crossed tail low from then on.

And how do they do it...that’s what my intellectual curiosity wants to know.

One might as well ponder how the muscles can contract or expand. As well we could ponder how an eel knows that he can create an electric shock and what to use it on.

what happens when you breed an electric eel with a shark?

That all depends on which one of them is the male and which is the female.

“30 amps or so.”

Why once should look up the answer instead of asking keyboard experts.

I am not surprised by this finding at all. Many years ago Al Gore said that Global Warming would cause small snakes to mutate and become huge, high-voltage electric eels.
