President Trump fired John Bolton as National Security Advisor Monday evening and made the announcement Tuesday on Twitter.
I informed John Bolton last night that his services are no longer needed at the White House. I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions, as did others in the Administration, and therefore I asked John for his resignation, which was given to me this morning. I thank John very much for his service. I will be naming a new National Security Advisor next week, Trump said in a pair of tweets Tuesday.
A few minutes later, John Bolton fired off a tweet claiming he was the one who offered to resign Monday night.
BOLTON: I offered to resign last night and President Trump said, Lets talk about it tomorrow.
i doubt that story.
i doubt that story.
I think Bolton is in my opinion most likely right.
I think Trump’s ego couldn’t let Bolton off with a resignation, that would make it Bolton’s decision not Trump’s, and I think the way it is with Trump is you never get the chance to resign, you only get fired.
I also think Trump is frustrated right now, as all of Pompeo’s diplomatic efforts are going nowhere, and even though Bolton is not involved in things like Afghanistan as much as is Pompeo and the State Department, Trump needed a fall guy. He told Bolton he blamed him, so Bolton resigned.
What was Bolton’s mistake? He told Pompeo et all that the negotiations with the Taliban were emboldening the Taliban, not leading to peace, and Bolton was proved right, by the Taliban themselves.
What Trump needed to do was fire Pompeo, but Pompeo has more friends in Congress than does irascible Bolton.
Distinction without a difference.
You can’t fire me, I quit!
You can’t quit, you’re fired!
Bolton was still trying to preserve the 1945-2016 status-quo world treaties, pacts and foreign policy structure which needed changed dramatically to deal with the realities of now, not 1945 or 1995. I suspect that Mattias left because he was still defending that old dying international order. They have lived it since 1945 and have tunnel vision and refuse to think outside the box.
How tabloidish.
A Bush neocon.
I have no problem with setting up a meeting to talk peace. But not near 9.11 anniversary.
Not at Camp David where people met after 9.11 to discuss who to do, the loss of lives, etc.
Moot
Trump probably asked for his resignation, which is the same as firing him.
No cause for alarm, folks, it’s just Gateway Pundit doing its usual dramatic reading of a few terse words.
Wasn't that Pompeo's thing, not Bolton...
On GP's part more than Bolton's, if you read the original tweets.
Yes. And how.
I am more inclined to give President Trump the benefit of the doubt.
