BEAR, Del. - A Delaware day care worker has been charged with murder after police say she covered the nose and mouth of a 4-month-old baby with her hand until the infant died.
Dejoynay Ferguson, 19, of New Castle, has been booked on one count of first-degree murder.
Delaware State Police officials said in a news release that state troopers and paramedics were called around 10:35 a.m. Thursday to Little People Child Development Center in Bear, where they found the infant girl unresponsive. She was rushed to Christiana Hospital in Newark, where she was pronounced dead.
Ferguson, who was the assigned caregiver for the girl, worked in the Infant Room at the day care. Troopers said investigators with the state police's homicide unit learned that Ferguson put her hands over the baby's mouth and nose and restricted her breathing until the girl became unresponsive.
"Once becoming unresponsive, the victim was placed back into a crib by Ferguson," troopers said in the news release. "After approximately 20 minutes, Ferguson advised the owner of the facility that the victim was unresponsive, at which time a call was made to 911."
A probable cause affidavit obtained by NBC Philadelphia states that surveillance video at the day care center captured the infant's death in full. The video shows Ferguson pick the baby up from the floor by her shirt and place her on a changing table.

I hope they closed the place down.
If she’d have killed the child 4 weeks and one day prior the whole group of Dem presidential nominees would have given her a standing ovation at the convention.
My crazy brother & his admotted child-hating wife did that to their child. Always sick, always behavioral problems.
sorry, should be 4 months and one day
Saw “Dejoynay” and stopped reading.
Two criticisms; a four month old infant is not a "kid" and as such was never "in control". An infant that young can only be comforted, fed or cleaned. It cannot be controlled, because it's own self-control mechanisms are undeveloped. Poor thing was probably colicky and that requires more stoicism than most young undereducated, poorly trained "caregivers" possess.
My mom could never understand why we had to tend to the baby every time it cried. “No wonder the house is so messy, you’re always fussing with the baby. Just put him in the crib and he’ll cry until he falls asleep.”
We tried, politely, to tell mom that when they are that young - they are crying because they need something! And with a colicky baby - some times it was REALLY difficult.
Sadly, this is not because of two income families or even one income but little ones put into daycare to unburden welfare moms, to assist in early childhood education of at risk children who left in the hands of their natural moms could be left unattended or abused much less learning to be like privileged children.
Ferguson is seen putting on latex gloves and covering the infants mouth and nose for more than three minutes, the affidavit says.
It was at that point that the girl stopped moving.
The Delaware News Journal reported that Ferguson initially gave troopers a different story from what was captured on the surveillance footage. After speaking with investigators, however, she admitted grabbing the child by the shirt.
Ferguson told detectives she grabbed the girl and put her hand over her face because she was fussy and wouldnt stop crying, the News Journal reported.
Yep. Before you know it, in a court trial, it will be called the Bernie defense. 👎 She will say she was just carrying out Bernies orders, to reduce the world's population. 👎👎
I agree. I’ve often wanted to try an experiment. Pick a small city, say 10,000 people, and declare that anyone who murders will be put to death in the same manner. I wonder what the results would be?
