Early mutiny in Miami [Dolphins] [ed]
Pro Football Talk ^ | September 8, 2019 | Mike Florio

Losing 59-10 at any level of football leaves a mark. In Miami, it’s sparking a mutiny.

Per a league source with knowledge of the situation, multiple Dolphins players contacted their agents after Sunday’s season-opening blowout loss and directed them to attempt to engineer trades elsewhere. The players believe that the coaching staff, despite claiming that they intend to try to win, aren’t serious about competing and winning and by all appearances have bought into the notion that the Dolphins will take their lumps now in the hopes of laying the foundation via high draft picks for building a successful team later.

Coach Brian Flores consistently has denied an intention to tank, but the first rule of Tank Club is never talk about Tank Club.

Too many terrible teams and the players are at physical risk playing on incompetent teams.

(Not directed at you, C19fan)

This, after Game 1? Nah, wouldn’t want to improve as a team or anything.

The Pegula family, who also own:

Owner of Buffalo Bills (NFL)
Owner of Buffalo Sabres (NHL)
Owner of Rochester Americans (AHL)
Owner of Buffalo Bandits (NLL)
Owner of Rochester Knighthawks (NLL)
Owner of Pegula Sports and Entertainment
Natural gas tycoon

He was also the guy who gave Penn State that ridiculous amount of money to start their hockey program ($102 million for the stadium and the program’s endowment). They gave $12 million to her college (Houghton) for their sports facilities.

As an aside, Mike Florio is a radical leftwing socialist & racist...and about as honest as the NYT.

Take what he says with a truckload of salt.

Can you imagine suffering permanent and debilitating brain damage to support a team that did not want to win?

I can't imagine suffering such damage playing for a team that is trying desperately to win, either. I've always loved following the game and the teams, but there have been far too many horror stories about retired players with lasting brain injuries and other physically debilitating injuries. They're grown men and they have the right to do it, but it's no longer as much fun for me to watch as it used to be - compared to MLB and the NBA, these guys take far more punishment to their bodies and they don't get paid nearly as much on average.

“Source with knowledge of the situation” == Fake News

...

Agreed. Everybody in the football world has known for months that the Dolphins are the worst team this year.

Snyder? His approach is to buy bigger super-yachts, charge his fan base 15$ a beer to cover the cost, and then ask tax payers for a new stadium; all the while setting his team up for mediocre 7-9 seasons.

Antonio Brown has just proven to all of them that you can manipulate your way into the situation you want as a player.

After watching the "highlights" of that game, I'd have to say that very few players were putting their bodies on the line. They need to work on their tackling and coverage since they mostly looked lazy and dumb in that first game.

The Dolphin's Draft “strategy” will only be as good as the rookie general manager who chooses the players - Chris Grier.

Grier worked in the Dolphin scouting department for many years.

In the last 11 Drafts, the Dolphins have picked only one Pro Bowl player in the First Round.

Their other ten First Round picks have been completely average players, and one total bust, DE Dion Jordan, who they traded up to get with the #3 pick.

In my opinion, the Dolphin owner for the last 11 years, Stephen Ross, is completely incompetent as a football executive.

His hiring decisions for head coach and general manager have been terrible!

I am such a huge Phins fans that all this kneeing and crap is just killing me. But, it will eventually blow over. At least I got to watch my team win two superbowls ... back in the 70s.🤪 Hey if anyone can, cue the paperbag on the Dolphin fan.

How can anybody America be interested in giving these America-haters and America-hater enablers the time of day?

I'm sitting here working, listening to WOKV in Jacksonville. The local guy is going on about our 88 million dollar quarterback, Foales, who after 10 snaps, broke his clavicle and is out for the season

I didn't even know we had Foales as our quarterback, I still thought it was that guy from central Florida - shows you how much I care about the NFL

NOW - bama football? That's another story

Dan Snyder wants a new stadium for the Redskins, barely 20 years after they got a new stadium.

The Atlanta Braves and Falcons each got into new stadiums after barely 20 years in their 1990s era new stadiums.

Ditto the Texas Rangers getting a new stadium after 20+ years.

The useful life of stadiums seems to have cratered.

“Can’t blame players who put their bodies on the line to demand leaving a team that is tanking.”

I can. Perhaps the players themselves deserve a share of the blame.

Re: King’s Ransom

The trade also included Miami’s number one receiver Kenny Stills, so, two Firsts and a Second, for two players.

The Dolphins still won the trade, but now they have to pick good players in the Draft, which is not something the Dolphins have done well for the last decade.
