The guy flying the 3 kites is in his 80s, and he's from Canada. He comes to the Washington State International Kite Festival every year.
His skin is like leather as he normally flies with his shirt off. He is deaf, so when he flies we hold our hands up and wave them for applause. He flies 2 with his hands and the 3rd one is attached to his waist. Enjoy!
You must watch to the end to see the a mazing landing of that last kite! I would have those kites so tangled up, you could never get them separate again!
And of course, make sure the volume is turned up because the music is wonderful and totally reflects the soaring of the kites. Beautiful.
Beautiful. Thank you for this post!
Wow, thanks for posting. Very cool. Guy definitely knows what he’s doing. I think he might be able to teach the Blue Angels a thing or two. ;-)
E-mailing this to all my friends!
Oops, #22 was meant for Sodpoodle
A movie was made from the book and it was very good too.
For anybody who is a kite fan, this book and movie are a must read and see.
Thanks for posting this beautiful video.
Very cool!
Great video. It brings back memories of when I was a young kid and I would make my own paper kites with newspaper and Elmer’s Glue and with wooden stays my dad would cut for me.
Way cool!!
Good stuff, sodpoodle! No joke!
Ray Bethell died Dec 18, 2018 at the age of 91. This video was from 2006.
“Bethell lost his hearing in his 60s due to a virus, a one-in-a-million occurrence doctors at the Vancouver Hearing Centre told him. It left him angry and depressed, until he came across a group of children in a park who had been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Having accepted his deafness, he embraced it.”

Well...I tried!
Copyrighted in 2004. I have known several deaf men and women who have remarkable skills. My father’s father had remarkable mechanical skills. Another deaf friend was a world class nature artist. They are each able to focus and concentrate without distraction for long periods.
