Kevin Hart's car lacked crucial safety features in crash, likely led to severe injuries
Philly Voice ^ | 7 Sept 2019 | ADAM HERMANN

Hart was driving a souped-up version of a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda, a classic two-door muscle car, when the car crashed through a fence on Malibu Hills' Mulholland Highway,

Hart was reportedly trapped under the crushed roof of the vehicle, according to TMZ. If the vehicle was equipped with a roll cage, the roof likely wouldn't have been crushed in such a manner, and Hart would've been better held in place by a five-point harness.

TMZ reached out to Speedkore, but the company had no comment.

And not all 5 point harnesses are DOT approved.

For some reason, human nature I guess, the more safety features on vehicles the less personal responsibility people seem to take when driving.
Yup. Too many people on the road fall into that false sense of security because cars today are safer and handle better. The most dangerous defect that can be found on any vehicle is the nut behind the steering wheel. The problem was never really high performance cars, it's low performance drivers. There are more road rage and crash vids on You Tube than one can watch in a lifetime.

Having grown up in the Motor City during the original muscle car era of the 1960’s I learned from numerous observations that those cars went real fast in a straight line. Aside from that the handling was terrible.

When I was young - before seat belts - the woman’s seat (yes, men did most of the driving) was known as the ‘death seat’... Even in fairly mild accident often the woman went through the windshield or broke her neck...

And the “dashboard” was so named because you would “dash” your brains out on it in an accident.

A friend of my mother was killed while riding in a rumble seat. There was an accident and the rumble seat closed on her and crushed her.

Life is dangerous.
We all have to pick our own level of risk. It’s called freedom!

True, until your risk impinges on my health and property.

Many car guys believe they have the skills and ability to take it for a good test ride.
Yet their RT can be easily measured on a kitchen clock and the last time they were on a track was many years back, if ever. But they are great drivers?

Not just septuagenarians like me, most are simply are wannabes.

A friend and his father keep an interesting stable, Ferrari, Viper, BMW... often up at Road America, on local streets not so much.

Leno has a garage full of cars better than this and I bet not many of them have roll cages unless they were built race cars. I’m sure Leno drives Mulholland and all the LA roads with his go-fasts. If you can drive and have more than half a brain and enough impulse control to not drive unless sober, there should be no problem with a resto-modded ‘70 Cuda.

1967 Camaro convertible with 400 Horsies.

I’ve seen a couple of the convertibles where the doors don’t open because the unibody has weakened from rust/age.

Remembering one where the doors chattered over railroad tracks.

But you happen to have a reproduction unibody, right?

Maybe if these idiots wouldn’t drive like they are in the Daytona 500 and kept the sucker between the sidewalks, they wouldn’t need roll cages, too.

Hart needs to shut his little mouth up. While he still can.
