The death toll from devastating Hurricane Dorian will be 'staggering' with thousands still missing, officials have warned amid reports looters are 'trying to shoot people' in the scramble for food and water.
Up to 70,000 are in need of 'life-saving assistance' while Great Abaco is said to be virtually uninhabitable, with bodies piled up and witnesses say there is a 'smell of death' with corpses floating in the water.
While the official death toll stands at 30, that number is expected to rise today and hundreds of body bags have been ordered along with extra freezers.
A massive international relief effort was ramped up today as survivors revealed horrifying details of the 'apocalyptic' aftermath of the 185mph, Category-5 storm.
One of them, Alicia Cooke, broke down in tears as she revealed: 'Everything is gone, people are starting to panic. Pillaging, looting, trying to shoot people for food and water. It's just no way everyone's going to get out.'

So I just saw the Daily Mail report and it's so typical....I'll leave it there.
“The Northern male knows to store up for winter everytime. People down there play games with nature and then blame the Northern man witchcraft of global warming..”
We keep 25, one gallon old milk jugs filled with water in our basement and 8, 5 gallon drywall buckets (leftover when we built out house) filled with non perishable food same place.
Cost nothing but the perishable food.
Geez, I just checked my official hurricane list from my local government, and guns arent on the list. (Well they are on my list).
Why isnt China & Denmark helping the Bahamas? They are invested in the island nation!
US help was there before the hurricane hit. Too bad, we’ll be seeing a repeat of the Puerto Rico water bottles not being given to the people.

No hurricanes in my area and no flooding but I’m sure I could find a way to protect them if I lived in the Bahamas.
Bury them, place in secure wooden box or steel container-old unused refrigerator bolted shut. Any number of ways.
Some people will always need to be rescued by other people in this world. Some people can’t be helped.
“Went to the Bahamas on our honeymoon almost 25 years ago.
Never felt so relieved to walk back on board the cruise ship after the day excursion. Felt like being back in civilization.”
Different experience on my end...
NO cruise ship to begin with - Flew into Nassau and stayed a few days at the Greycliff (best severance I have EVER had anywhere in the world).
Hopped over to Harbor Island for a week of relaxation on the pink sand beach...
The locals were very wonderful folks and the vacation was very nice for a 10th anniversary.
Try it sometime! Harbor island is wonderful.
They are a member of the British Commonwealth, as are Canada and Australia
Losing power isn’t enough to invoke anarchy. Desperation does.
I lived in Ct and we lost power for a week at a time often, but we had access to food, water and shelter.
Exactly. No disasters but if I slide off the icy road within minutes 3 trucks have stopped to help me. They work together to get me back on the road.
Amen to your takeaway. We see it here all of the time.
If you can’t trust your neighbors and people in your town it is time to move!
I trust mine with my life—under _any_ dire circumstance.
How can one truly celebrate diversity without first disarming the straights?
What is the UK doing to help??
What is/has UK done to help?
They often have more accurate and detailed reporting of events than any US based media. They lean left, but no more than the typical US newspaper. And they report much more accurately.
