Fewer people are getting married because there’s a shortage of economically-stable [tr]

Marriage isn’t as popular as it once was. In fact, the marriage rate in the U.S. is the lowest it’s been in at least 150 years, reports PBS.

A new study, published in the Journal of Marriage and Family, may have one explanation as to why: There aren’t enough “economically-attractive” men — ones with a good income and a stable job — for single women to marry.

In the study, researchers examined couples in heterosexual marriages from 2008 to 2012 and 2013 to 2017, compiling character profiles (education and income levels) of the husbands. When they analyzed the pool of available men for these economically-attractive traits that demographically-similar single women might look for, there was a shortage of potential matches.

The researchers hypothesized that potential husbands for the single women had an average income nearly 60 percent higher than the actual pool of available men. They were also 30 percent more likely to be employed and 19 percent more likely to have a college degree compared to current bachelors.

You’re too close to California. Here in Tennessee, my wife and I raised TWO male adults who are successful, married, and giving us grandchildren. We have a lot of friends who’ve done the same.

Now - do my sons (and myself) enjoy doing stuff teenagers do? Sometimes, yes. But only after we’ve taken care of business.

My tagline is something I’ve told my boys for years.

“I’m on mobile, which reply of mine do you mean?”

This one:

“Please, do tell, why do men’s mindset need to change?”

There are no respectful and honorable women (Hint, generalizing/'No True Scotsmen' is not an argument).

All this goes back to the late 1960s through the sexual revolution socially and when females started entering the workforce (Being careerist) i.e, supply (Workers) expanded greatly, while wages (Demand) decreased and flat-lined.

Enter inflation rates, expanded globalization, along with businesses targeting their predominately highest costs (Labor) through higher prices (Double income family created that illusion which profit margins illuminate) layoffs-relocation to other countries of jobs a lot of men could sustain a family with, and you get why we are here.

A lot of people enjoyed that ride, however, the bill is coming due in demographics, debt, jadedness, anger, emptiness, and societal implosion because the family was crucified by "progress", "empowerment", and "enlightenment" (Way too fast for my taste).

“What time do married men have to take care of themselves, when they’re working 40+ hours a week, having to wine and dine her, seeing her family and friends, taking her on vacations, as well as worrying she may cheat on him, whether at home, at work, or if she travels for work?”

You mgtow guys are the equivalant of radical feminist = poison.

I love being married as do most of my male friends. My 20 something nieces are all married now and they are great girls who married really awesome guys.

Are there times I wanted to strangle my wife? Sure. Marriage is hard and you have to work at it.

I remember my single days. They sucked.

“Be a man” means doing the first two most of all - kind of a summary of the first two phrases.

It also means to adopt an attitude of confidence. Know your limits, but be sure you know what you can do, and do it well. By the way, “humble” is not self-deprecating, it’s having a realistic view of who you are. I’m humble, even when I tell you I’m really good at something (as long as I’m truly good at it).

Don’t take garbage. You shouldn’t pick fights, but you should be ready to defend your position, yourself, and the ones you love. Physically if required.

Be ready to select “none of the above” as your choice to stupid questions/situations, and questions/situations designed to paint you in a corner.

“Oh yeah? Watch this.” Should be high on your list of replies (not verbally, but actually) when told you cannot do something, or that something cannot be done.

Live and let live, and be prepared to walk away and live your own life, no matter what others say.

I like to think that “being a man” means I’ll look a lot like Jesus.

I’m 33, have no desire to start a family, and hate kids.

______________

and who taught you that?

You are of the generation that was taught in schools that children were a burden.

Given electronic equipment that beeped to simulate a child inturupting you, given a doll to contstantly carry, being told that there was nothing more important than you and your needs.

a whole generation brainwashed.

It really isn’t a good and sustainable business practice to relentlessly drive down wages. The lower quality and morale of the workforce will eliminate any savings from penny-pinching pretty quickly.

Oh, I don't know. It's been working pretty well for business for the last 30 years or so. Stock valuations are way up and wages for all but the top earners are have barely budged, adjusted for inflation. And with the rise of the global economy, the US market is becoming less important. I recently heard that the Chinese middle class is larger than the entire US population.

And women are still considered the victims after years of discriminating against men in the workplace and education.

All the young gals are educated, most attractive, fit, make lots of money but they are all single. They refuse to marry down. So their spouse become their horse.

Redpill explains this in more detail.

When there are no societal constraints women will compete for the most attractive men (alphas--strong social skills and physical appearance) but the alphas have so many women competing for them they have no need or desire to marry.

Women's refusal to "marry down" is not just financial.

These women do not want to have sex with or marry betas (average looking guys with minimal social skills) who may have some financial resources--until the women "hit the wall" and are no longer fit and attractive.

In the old days women did not expect to marry very attractive guys. They were trained by peer pressure (everyone else is getting married now, I need to get married too, to whoever is interested in me) to marry average guys from their neighborhood or social group. My mother once confided in me: "I would never marry a very good looking guy because I knew other women would steal him from me."

I agree with you.

My son is in the trades. He probabley will not earn more that 60K per years, although he buys and renovates income property, and that income will start pouring in within 20 years.

He is also heir via other side of the fam to substanial property and rapidly appreciating houses that are without debt.

So he has what used to be called prospects.

He is good looking and women like him. Professional women are a bit touchy, he isnt at their level. How ever he is great with children, and could be a wonderful homemaker and parent to any number of children, and still be bringing home the basics of the equivelent of mortgage, utilities, insurence, and vechicle payments. Which is usually 1/4 to 1/3 of people’s incomes.

Not bad without lifting a finger. And if he did his own property management on his current and added propterties, he would bring in even more.

I htink it is a good deal for the right woman.

Many, if not most, of the women behave as though they are members of the Royal family and are insulted at being shown those “inadequate” homes. I’d rather watch something else.

This article states that women have more college degrees than men today, but that there is a “pay gap”, never asking what degrees they have;

There is a “pay gap” because women work less than men. Part of that is biological, of course. Every job I have ever had the males in the building did the heavy lifting. It is what it is.
